Seeking Advice on Hyundai ix20 2017: Drop in power, ABS Warning Light, and Traction Issues

Loss of traction

ABS warning light

Loss of engine power

ABS/DSC system is not working

Hey everyone, I've got a bit of a weird one with my Hyundai ix20, 2017 model with a Gasoline engine. Lately, it's lost a bit of power, my ABS warning light is up, and the ABS/DSC system is acting up. On top of that, I've noticed a loss of traction too. My initial thought was that it might be a faulty supply voltage for the ABS speed sensor, but I figured to check in here for your expert opinions. Anyone else had similar issues and can shed light on their workshop repair experiences? Any advice or troubleshooting tips would be awesome.

Hey there! I’ll throw in my two cents since I had a similar experience with my Hyundai i30 that's a 2015 model. Just to clear the air, I have some basic car knowledge and not a mechanic or anything, just an enthusiast. In my case, a similar issue came up and weirdly enough, it was indeed down to a defective component. Looks like you're onto something about this being potentially an ABS sensor issue. I had to replace the ABS sensor in my car, which was integrated into a larger component. Just for your info, it cost me around 170 Euro to replace it at my regular workshop. Could you please share some more details though? Like any recent changes in driving conditions, services done, or parts replaced recently. It'd be great if you could also share the error codes if you've got them scanned. These bits of info can be quite helpful for a more accurate diagnosis.

Hey, thanks a bunch for your feedback! Nice to have a hunch backed up by a fellow Hyundai driver. As for more detail, everything was working fine up until recently. I did my last service at 32603 KM and there were no issues back then. No major parts replaced or any significant changes in driving conditions. Haven't got any error codes read yet. That's my plan this weekend. Hoping the diagnostic brings up something concrete so I can sort this out. I'll definitely keep in mind the cost you mentioned, gives a good ballpark. Cheers!

No worries at all! Always happy to help out a fellow Hyundai owner. Your last service doesn't seem that far in the past, and it's quite unusual for such issues to crop up unexpectedly unless there's been some significant wear and tear. Getting the error codes read is definitely the next best step for you. From my experience, if it indeed turns out to be the ABS sensor or anything related, you should expect some sort of code related to Wheel Speed Sensor or something along those lines. Don’t forget, a code reader won’t give you the exact problem but it’ll give you a starting point, from which you or a capable mechanic can troubleshoot. In some cases, the issue might be as innocuous as a dirty sensor. And remember, the cost figure I gave you is just what I had paid, your figures may vary based on your mechanic, location and the exact issue at hand. Keep us posted about what you find out! Good luck to you!

Absolutely! I totally get that. Was just wrapping my head around possible costs, just in case. As you mentioned, I'm trying not to jump the gun till I get the codes read. I'll surely take note of everything you've suggested and hoping it might just be something not too serious like a dirty sensor, fingers crossed! I'll definitely keep you guys posted on what pops up after the diagnostics. Cheers again for all the useful advice. Good vibes only from here, hoping for the best!
