Seeking Advice on Handling 'Fault Stored' Issue in 2016 Lexus GS

Hey, need some advice here. I've got a 2016 Lexus GS, Gasoline engine, run about 151,722 km. It's showing "Fault stored" and I think the Central fault memory lock might be active. Had a rough time with my last mechanic, and I'm on edge. Has anyone experienced the same? What was your fix and how did your mechanic handle it? Appreciate any tips or experiences shared. Thanks.

Summary of the thread

A 2016 Lexus GS is displaying a "Fault stored" message, potentially due to an active Central fault memory lock. This issue might be linked to a malfunctioning Engine Control Module (ECM), which can cause sensor data to become inaccessible. A suggested solution is to have a reliable mechanic, preferably at a dedicated Lexus garage, run a diagnostic to confirm the problem. If the ECM is faulty, replacing it could resolve the issue, though it may be costly.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey there, had a similar issue with my 2013 Lexus ES a while back. Turns out, it was a messed up ECM (Engine Control Module). Basically, your car's brain went a little haywire. The fault memory lock being active could mean some needed sensor data got locked up in the ECM and it can't do its job right. When I took my car to the garage, the mechanic had to run a diagnostic to ascertain the exact cause. Unfortunately, there was no easy fix. They needed to change the entire ECM which is a bit of a pain, but hey, what can you do? It sounds like a big deal but honestly, it's more of a complicated issue than a serious one. Anyway, have it checked out by somebody reliable. My advice is to find a dedicated Lexus garage if you can, they're likely to have more experience with this sort of thing. Good luck!

Yo, that sounds pretty intense. That ECM issue sounds like a bit of a nightmare, but I guess it all boils down to finding a good mechanic. So, just out of curiosity, you remember how much the whole thing set you back? And has anything else popped up since then? Fingers crossed it was a one-time thing!

Hey! Yeah, it sure felt a bit unnerving at first, but thankfully things sorted out in the end. As for your curiosity, fixing the broken component did lighten my pocket a bit - it cost me around 625 Euro, to be exact. As it was pretty critical to the car functioning properly though, I reckon it was money well spent in the long run. After the mechanic gave the car a once-over and the faulty part got replaced, the Central fault memory lock issue was also settled. So far, touch wood, it's been a smooth ride since then - not a single problem! Essentially it was like starting fresh with a brand-new 'brain' for the car. Hope that eases some of your worries. Stay cool!

Yeah, that puts things into a clearer perspective. Definitely on the pricey side, but at least it's not a recurring issue. Gosh, was it stressful but your experiences have been really helpful. I'll keep an eye out for any Lexus specialists around here and hopefully get this headache sorted. Thanks for the shared insights, I appreciate it. Hoping for a headache-free ride soonest! Cheers.
