Seeking Advice on Flickering Lights and Weak Battery Issues in 2012 Kia Ray

Weak battery when starting the engine

|

Dim or flickering lights

Hey! I'm driving a 2012 Kia Ray, Gasoline engine with around 45,506 km on it. Recently I've been dealing with issues of dim/flickering lights and a weak battery when starting up. I suspect it could be an issue with the vehicle battery temperature sensor, given the symptoms. Has anyone else experienced this kind of problem? How did your mechanic handle it? I'm a bit cautious since my last visit to a garage didn't go so well. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Cheers!

Hey there, Had a similar issue with my 2015 Kia Soul just last year. My symptoms were practically identical to yours, weak battery start, dim lights, you name it. Turns out, your suspicion might be right on the money. It was a defective battery temperature sensor in my case. The mechanics diagnosed the problem after a detailed inspection, and it was the battery temperature sensor causing havoc. The sensor was promptly replaced followed by a full system check just to make sure everything was fine. I'd suggest acting on it soon though. Mine started with just flickering lights and escalated from there, showing the importance of addressing these early signs. Don't wait up, get your Kia checked out ASAP. Cheers!

Hey there, Appreciate your response! Sounds exactly like what's happening with my Ray. If it's not too much to ask, do you remember how much it set you back gobbling up this sensor issue? I want to have some ballpark figures in mind before I toss it to a mechanic. And also, was replacing the sensor the end of it or did any other issues pop up later? Hope you don't mind my asking. Thanks!

Hey! No worries, happy to share. For the battery temperature sensor replacement on my Kia Soul, I had to shell out around 315 bucks, give or take. Pretty neat considering how much it was messing up the rest of the car. And to answer your other question, nope, no other issues have come up since the fix. My mechanic was thorough. Once the troublesome sensor was replaced, it was like a domino effect in reverse. All the problems just stopped. Just make sure you get a good mechanic to look it over. Electrical issues can be tricky to nail down sometimes, but with the right hands on the job, you'll be just fine. Best of luck with your Ray! Cheers!

Hey, thanks for that! It's good to have a rough figure in mind before I take it in. $315 doesn't sound too harsh for getting rid of these annoying problems. And it's a relief to hear that you've had no issues since, just what I needed to hear! Absolutely agreed on the good mechanic part! Electrical problems indeed can get quite gnarly if not dealt with appropriately. Hopefully, my Ray gets a neat fix as your Soul did. Really appreciate your advice. I'll attend to it without delay and let you know how it goes. Fingers crossed! Thanks again! Cheers!
