Seeking Advice on Flashing Check Engine Light, Overheating, and Coolant Level Drop in 2017 Hyundai ix20

Coolant level low

Check engine light on

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Overheating

Hey! I've got a bit of a head-scratcher with my 2017 Hyundai ix20 with a Gasoline engine. Recently, the check engine light started flashing, my car's been overheating and my coolant level seems to be taking a nosedive. I've also got this annoying warning light showing up on the speedometer. My gut tells me it might be due to some kind of error in the communication between the control devices, but I'm really hoping for some expert advice. Has anyone else had this problem and got it sorted? How did your workshop handle it? Any tip will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey there, Looks like you’re facing a similar issue I had with my 2015 Hyundai Elantra, Diesel engine. Just a regular dude here with some tinkering experience under my belt, far from a professional level, mind you. I found that my car's problem was a defective cable connection/plug of the water pump which cost me 155€ to fix. Got it sorted at my local workshop, they were quick to diagnose and handle it. Before giving you more precise advice, could you share what control device errors you're getting? Or any error codes, if any, showed up? They could help in pinpointing what's messing with your ix20. Hope this helps a bit!

Hey! Appreciate the reply. No actual error codes showed up, but you made a good point about the water pump. Might be worth to get that checked out. Aging parts do tend to cause chaos, don't they? Had my last service around the 32603 KM mark, and all seemed fine then. Might be due for a surprise visit sooner rather than later if this keeps up. Looking forward to any more hints you wizards might have. Cheers!

Hey there, Ain't that the truth? The years do tend to knock the breath out of car parts! No actual error codes might complicate things a bit, but don't worry too much. Could be as simple as a stuck thermostat or the radiator fan not working properly, aside from the water pump issue. Those can cause overheating and low coolant levels too. If you're comfortable with it, take a look under the hood and see if the radiator fan is spinning when the car is at operating temperature. Pro-tip - if your radiator fan isn’t running at full speed, it won't take enough heat off the radiator to cool down the coolant. I'd definitely recommend popping by your local workshop earlier rather than later though. Anticipating issues usually cost less in the long run and it might just save you a breakdown in the middle of the road. Crossing fingers it's an easy fix!

Hey, thanks for the heads up! You're absolutely right about prevention being better. I'll have a look at the radiator fan and get this whole thing checked out at my local workshop. After all, nobody wants that pesky breakdown hassle. Thanks a ton for the advice. Fingers crossed it's nothing complicated. If there are issues, hopefully I'll catch them before they become a royal pain. Keep your tips coming, they've been really helpful. Cheers!
