Seeking Advice on Erratic Shifting, ABS Warning, and Noise Issues in 2013 Lexus GS

Whining or grinding noises

Transmission slips/shifts erratically

ABS warning light

Hey everyone, I'm dealing with a weird situation with my 2013 Lexus GS, Gasoline. Been noticing some erratic shifting with the transmission, ABS warning light popping up, along with whining and grinding noises from the car. My hunch is that this could have something to do with the Transfer case emergency running control being active. Has anyone else faced a similar issue, and if so, how did you or your workshop go about fixing it? Any tips or sharing personal experiences would be massively helpful! Cheers!

Hey! Your issue sounds oddly similar to something I experienced with my 2015 Lexus IS. Now, I don't pretend to be a Car whisperer or anything – you could say I have just some experience from past endeavours with my rides. Anyway, my issue turned out to be a Consequential error in the dynamic stability control. Took my giri to a trusty workshop I frequent and the good blokes over there got it sorted for free! Reason being it was an error in their servicing. Can you believe that? Just wondering, has your car experienced any major bumps or crashes recently? Sometimes, such impacts can trigger these issues. Also, how about the mileage? Higher miles could be a factor too. More details could definitely help get to the bottom of this beast. Cheers!

Hey there, Appreciate you sharing your experience. I haven't had any major bumps or crashes recently–touch wood. The mileage on my Lexus is around 92,090 km so it's pretty high. The car got her major service just before hitting the 80k mark. I’ll take your advice and check if there's any error in dynamic stability control, might end up being the root cause of all this trouble. Fingers crossed it’s something that can be sorted out without breaking the bank. Thanks a heap for your help! Cheers!

No worries Glad to chip in with whatever little I know. 92k isn't too bad on a Lexus GS and should run fine, unless there's been lack of regular maintenance or sheer bad luck, you know. You mentioned a major service at the 80k mark. I'm curious, was the transfer case fluid changed then? Most of these transfer case issues are due to old or low-quality fluid. And any chance the transmission fluid was overlooked as well? It's easy to miss and could cause erratic shifts. If the ABS light is bothering you, this might indicate a problem with the ABS sensor, or even the brake system. Given you've got those whining noises, I’d suggest have the brake and wheel hubs inspected too. Hoping these suggestions pan out. Fingers crossed for you too! Let us know how you go. Cheers!

Hey! You're a life saver. Honestly hadn't considered the transfer case fluid or transmission fluid could have been overlooked during the last service. Now that I think about it, I'm not absolutely sure if those were changed then. Need to get my workshop records and give it a closer look. I'm definitely taking your advice and getting the ABS sensor and brake system inspected too. The noises have definitely got me worried. I'll keep you all posted on the progress. Thanks for cheering me on! Stay awesome, Cheers!
