Seeking Advice on Erratic Gear Shifts and Warning Lights in 2022 Renault Arkana

Transmission slips/shifts erratically

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Grinding noise when shifting gears

Hey folks, recently my 2022 Renault Arkana (petrol engine, about 42060km on the clock) has developed some funky issues. I have noticed erratic gear shifts, weird grinding noise while shifting gears and that annoying warning light on the speedo just won’t go off. I'm suspecting it's a problem with the transmission oil pressure sensor (my instinct, may or may not be right). Now, call me paranoid, but I had a bad run-in with a mechanic the last time, and I just can't shake off the apprehension. Anyone here had a similar problem? I'd love to hear your experiences dealing with such issues and your recommendations on how to navigate this with the mechanic. Thanks in advance!

Hi , this sounds all too familiar. I had almost the exact problem with my 2019 Renault Koleos just last year, right down to the weird noises and the pesky warning light! Turned out that my transmission oil level was too low. This caused my transmission to overheat and not shift gears properly which explained the strange noises and the erratic gear shifts. The thing here is that while it's not the worst possible issue on the scale of car problems, it's not something you wanna disregard either. It's a bit like driving your car on empty. Sure, you can get by for a while, but eventually, you're gonna do some serious damage to your engine. Same goes for the transmission oil level. If it's not addressed promptly, your transmission could go belly up. When I took my Koleos to the garage, they spotted the low oil level during a routine service. Went ahead and refilled the transmission oil, and advised me to keep a close eye on it. The job didn't take too long. It's essential to remember though, my issue was caught early, and your case might be different. Yes, mechanics can be a pain sometimes, but a good one is worth his weight in gold. In your case, let them know about your symptoms and your suspicions about the transmission oil pressure sensor. Sometimes a hunch can be a handy lead to a quicker diagnosis. Hope this helps, and good luck with your Renault Arkana.

Hey there, thanks for the enlightening response! It seems we're part of the same club with these similar car issues. I hope filling up the transmission oil did the trick for you. If you don't mind my asking, do you remember about how much you had to dish out to get that fixed? Also, since you had that sorted, any other problems with your Koleos? Maybe it's my paranoia talking again, but I'd hate to fix one issue just to find another popping up later. Cheers again for the advice!

Hey, no problem at all! Glad to help out a fellow motorhead. So about the repair costs, I had to part with around €365 to get that transmission oil level issue sorted. I know, it was a bit of a hit on the wallet, but believe me - it's money well spent to dodge bigger problems down the line. And yep, since that infamous visit to the mechanic, things have been running pretty smooth with my Koleos, thankfully! Especially, that pesky transmission oil pressure sensor issue got fixed up the same time. So don't fret too much, once your Arkana's serviced and all, it should be just like old times. Of course, cars will be cars - they'll always find a way to surprise us. Just keep an ear out for any weird noises, and you'll be able to catch most issues before they become major. Hope this puts your mind at ease a little. Best of luck with your ride!

You've been a great help! That budget ballpark is not as bad as I feared and hearing about your smooth ride post the repairs gives me hope. Thank you for sharing it really puts my mind at ease! I'll definitely follow your advice on keeping a watch on it after getting it fixed. Indeed, "cars will be cars". Guess we signed up for the surprises the day we bought them, huh? Good to know there's a great community out here ready to lend a hand (or ear!). Thanks again, happy driving!
