Seeking Advice on Dim Lights, Weak Start-Up and Possible Battery Sensor Problems in 2014 Mini Roadster

Weak battery when starting the engine

|

Dim or flickering lights

Hey! I've been having some weird issues with my 2014 Mini Roadster, gasoline engine. The lights have been dim and flickering and it seems like the battery is weak when I try to start up. I've got a hunch it might be a battery sensor error but I'm really not sure. Any of you have had something similar happen, and if so, how’d your workshop fix this issue? Appreciate any tips or experiences shared!

Hey! Your issue sounds just like one I had on my 2012 Mini Cooper S a while back. Not a car guru myself, but I've got a bit of experience tinkering around. Noticed the same dim lights and weak start, super frustrating, right? Turned out my mechanic found that the battery sensor microprocessor was defective. Bummer, I know. Dropped around 315 Euro to have it sorted out, and that seemed to do the trick, no more issues since then. If you wanna know more specifics, bring me up to speed with your car details. Hope this helps and you get your Roadster up and running smoothly!

Hey, cheers for your response! Sweet to hear from a fellow Mini owner. I've covered around 25814KM already on this beauty, and to be fair, she hasn't given too much trouble 'til now. It's nice to have a ballpark figure for the cost too, even though it's not the greatest news to hear it's a pricey fix, haha! That detail about the sensor microprocessor's pretty nifty too, wouldn't have thought of that myself. I'll definitely bring this up at my local workshop when I drop in for the next service. If anything else pops into your mind about this, feel free to share!

Hey again! Totally get you. These Mini’s are a blast to drive, aren't they? And 25814KM, that's quite a run! Well, things do start acting up with age, just part of owning a car. You got it! The battery sensor can be a bit of a pain. But keeping in mind that this little issue is just like aging gracefully, haha! Just remember that the sensor’s role is vital as it keeps a tab on the battery system and ensures that it's all running well. Oh, just recalled, this issue also got me to replace an old alternator around the same time. Ask your mechanic to check that out too. Could save you from future headaches. Keep me posted about how it goes when you drop in at the workshop soon! And yeah, these things can be a bite to the wallet, but think about those sweet rides after the fix. All the best!

No kidding, they sure are a blast! Yeah, she's had a good run—hoping it'll be an even smoother one post this fix. Right, I'll make a note about the sensor's role—and wow, the alternator as well! You’ve been through it all. I'll be sure to ask my mechanic to double-check that too, doesn't hurt to be on the safe side. Planning on heading to the workshop next week, fingers crossed it all goes well. Trust me, can't wait to get back on those sweet rides! Probs gonna pinch the pocket a bit but hey, all in for the love of the ride, right? Thanks a ton for the help. Really, you've been a lifesaver. Cheers!
