Seeking Advice on Dealing with Persistent Warning Light in 2005 Volvo V70 Possibly Due to Worn Brakes

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hey guys, my 2005 Volvo V70 with a gasoline engine is acting up. I've got a persistent warning light on the speedometer and I suspect it might be down to worn brakes. Anyone ever dealt with this before and got it sorted at a workshop? Really appreciate any advice or firsthand experiences you could share about identifying and fixing this issue.

Hey, I can totally relate to your issue with the '05 Volvo V70. I had a very similar problem a couple of years back with my '03 Volvo S60, same manufacturer, almost same model, just a few years older. Just to clarify, I'm no car expert - just a regular guy with some car experience - nothing fancy. The workshop I went to had a good look into it. They found out that indeed, worn brakes were causing the warning light on the speedometer. All I had to do was replace them completely. Set me back around 480 Euro, but it was definitely worth it for the peace of mind. But hey, every case is different, you know? Just to be sure, could you please share more on the kind of sound your car's making or any other symptoms? It could give me a better idea about your specific situation.

Hey, cheers for the quick reply . So, to provide a bit more context, there's this continuous high-pitched squeaking sound every time I hit the brakes. Plus, it feels a bit less responsive than usual too. Been driving around like this for a few weeks, which is kinda tricky, given our car's mileage is now at 114536 KM since the last service. I guess you're right, a complete replacement sounds like a solid plan. Serve me the peace of mind you're talking about! Thanks for the heads up on the potential cost too - helps a lot with the planning.

Hey there! The squeaking sound you are hearing, along with the lack of responsiveness, definitely sounds like a brake problem to me. Worn brake pads often makes that high-pitched sound. Your car's mileage is pretty high, and based on my own experience with the Volvo, I'd say your brakes have served you well and now it's their time to rest. The total cost I mentioned in my previous post includes both the parts and labor, just for your reference. The workshop I go to have always done a good job, and I haven't had any issues with them. I'd suggest you also look for a good Volvo workshop. Your safety on the road is priority, don't jeopardize it for a couple of weeks of convenience. But at the end of the day, it's your call . Whatever you decide, I hope everything turns out well for you. Keep us posted!

Wow! Can't thank you enough for the detailed response. Yeah, I guess you're right. I've been kinda pushing it, avoiding the inevitable brake replacement. Safety should, indeed, be something we should never compromise. Your advice has been hugely helpful and I now have a better idea of the potential cost too. I'll definitely start looking for a good Volvo workshop nearby and get this problem sorted. Will keep you guys posted on how it goes. Thanks a bunch!
