Seeking Advice on Dacia Sandero's Engine Oil Pressure Control Malfunction Indicator and Metal Shavings in Oil

Oil light on

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Metal shavings in oil

Hey guys! Gotta quick one for you - just hit 109,317 km on my 2020 Dacia Sandero (gasoline engine). Recently, my oil light flicked on and I found metal shavings in my engine oil. Alarming, right? Along with that, I've got this pesky warning light on my speedometer. I'm guessing the culprit might be an Engine oil pressure control malfunction, based on my car's symptoms. The last time I went to the mechanic, let's just say it wasn't a great experience. So before I head back there, I wanted to tap into the knowledge pool here. Anyone faced similar issues in the past? What was the diagnosis and how did your encounter with the mechanic go? Looking forward to your responses. Thanks a bunch in advance!

Hey! I feel your pain. Had a similar issue with my 2017 Dacia Duster. The worrying part was indeed the metal shavings – quite a serious matter. Ended up being a problem with the cable harness on the oil pressure control valve. Was all oily and defective, causing fluctuating oil pressure which led to the warning light on my dash too. My garage experience was a mixed bag. Was sorted in a day, but the oil light flicking on, plus the metal shavings, meant it needed immediate attention. In the end, it was about getting that cable harness fixed up, and doing a thorough oil and filter change, especially to deal with those shavings. So yeah, a bit of a headache but not an end-of-the-world type issue. Recommend not to ignore it - get your car to a trusty mechanic, and hopefully you'll be back on the road sooner than you think. Best of luck!

Hi there! Whoa, that doesn't sound like fun at all! That shaky experience with your mechanic must have been rough. I had a similar run-in with my old Sandero. The blimey oil light flickered on and I was super worried about it. Your problem sounds similar to what went down with my car. Those metal shards in the oil are definitely a major red flag, though. Sorting out the oil pressure control valve seemed to do the trick for me, too. If you don't mind me asking, do you remember how much fixing that set you back? And, have you noticed anything else out of the ordinary with your ride since the fix? Crossing my fingers for you - hope everything works out alright for you, fella! Catch you on the flip side!

Hey there! Ah, you had me jogging my memory! So the fix to that pesky cable harness on the oil pressure control valve ended up thinning my wallet by 350€. Not what anyone loves, but then, peace of mind isn’t cheap, right? The good news is, since the mechanic got down to business and sorted it out, my ride's been purring like a kitten - not a single problem. The engine oil pressure control malfunction, it was indeed, and looks like we were on the ball with that one. Since then, no more flickering oil lights or dreaded warning signs on the dash. Feels good, you know, to not have to worry about the very thing that gets you to places - no weird noises, no quirky behavior, just smooth drives. Best of luck with your auto woes. Hopefully, this bit of info pushes you in the right direction. Keep those wheels rolling! Take care!

Hey guys, Thanks a lot for taking the time to share your experiences! I was getting pretty nervous with the issues I have been facing with my Sandero. Based on your insights, it seems like my initial hunch about the Engine oil pressure control malfunction wasn't far off. The issues appeared quite similar with both your cars. Now it's making sense to me how the cable harness relating to that can kick up such a fuss. Also, a 350€ price tag for the fix, while not delightful, does give me a ballpark of what I might be looking at. I'm absolutely relieved to know that after sorting it out, you've both been having smooth rides. That's encouraging! I'll make sure to give my mechanic a thorough briefing when I take the car in. Will be sure to deal with those metal shavings too and do a thorough oil and filter change. You guys are lifesavers. I'll keep you all posted on how things turn out. Fingers crossed I avoid any more mechanics from hell! Enjoy your smooth rides! Cheers!
