Seeking Advice on Central Locking and Key Fob Issues with 2022 Kia Sorento

Key fob issues

Locking/Unlocking issue

Hey fellow car enthusiasts, I've been having a bit of a rough ride with my 2022 Kia Sorento Gasoline model. My central locking isn't working as it should and I've also noticed problems with my key fob. It's made me think that there might be an issue with the central locking function, but I'm hoping someone with more experience can shed some light on this. Has anyone else faced something similar and got it fixed at a workshop? What was your experience like? I'd sincerely appreciate any advice or pointers.

Hey there! I've had a similar issue with my 2020 Kia Sportage. I'm not a whizz when it comes to cars but I've picked up a few bits and pieces having owned a couple of Kias. Central locking gave me grief, just like you're experiencing now with your Sorento. I ended up taking my vehicle to a local workshop. The guys there are pretty sound. Turns out the issue was a defective cable connection. Good news is that it wasn't a seriously pricey fix, only cost me 155 Euro. However, just to give you a more precise solution, could you let me know what kind of symptoms are you experiencing? Also, any specific conditions when this problem occurs would be helpful too. Hope this info guides you in the right direction!

Hey! Thanks a bunch for the quick reply. Funny how we car owners tend to pick up on a bunch of tech stuff, huh? So, in terms of symptoms, the doors just don't lock or unlock with the key fob consistently. Sometimes, it's just one door not responding, and other times it's a couple of them. Also, the issues crop up out of nowhere - not specific to any condition or time of the day. And it's giving me quite a hard time ’cause there's been like a gazillion times when I had to rush but got held up because of this. Oh, and I forgot to mention, I've run about 179380 clicks on it. I did go for the last service just a few weeks ago where they did a general check-up, but then this wasn't acting up then. It’s quite annoying, frankly. Based on what you shared, I believe it's a good idea for me to check out a local workshop here then. Thanks again for your input, appreciate it!

Hey there! No problem at all; we've all been there with these annoying car issues. Your symptoms do sound a lot like what I experienced with my Kia Sportage. Irregular door responses and inconsistent key fob performance are likely caused by a weak signal or possible interference, especially if they occurred out of nowhere without any specific conditions. But again, I’m no car whiz – just reporting on what happened in my own experience. One thing you can try before hitting the workshop is replacing your key fob battery, just to rule that out as a possible cause. If the problem persists though, take it to a professional. It could be a defective cable connection or a faulty central locking unit. But no worries these things don’t usually break the bank, and it will definitely bring you peace of mind to have it sorted. After getting mine fixed, my Kia works like a charm! As for the mileage you've run, that's quite impressive! But I wouldn't stress too much about it. I don't reckon it's the root of this specific issue. I had only about 120000 on my Kia when I had these quirks. Anyway, don’t let this issue hold you back. Try out the local workshop and keep us updated on how it goes. Best of luck with it all!

Alright then! I'll try your suggestion and replace the key fob battery first and if the problem persists, I'll take it down to the workshop this week itself and hopefully get this sorted out soon. Can't really afford to be stranded or held back due to this issue. And yeah, wouldn't really link the mileage with this, it's just one of those unusual things, I guess. But I'm glad to hear your Kia is running smooth after the fix. Gives me hope this won't be a massive issue. I'll surely keep you and everyone else updated on the progress. Thanks again for taking out time to help. Catch you around! Let's hope our vehicles keep us on the move and not on the edge of our seats!
