Seeking Advice on Black Smoke, Lost Power, and Decreased Fuel Economy in 2012 Lexus LFA: Possible Lambda Sensor Issue?

Unsteady engine

Poor fuel economy

Loss of engine power

Check engine light on

Jerking on acceleration

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Hey everyone, I'm having a bit of an issue with my 2012 Lexus LFA gas engine. Recently, it's been giving off black smoke when I accelerate, the check engine light keeps flashing, I've noticed a loss of engine power, it's not running smooth, experiencing jerks on acceleration, and my fuel economy has gone down drastically. I have a hunch that this might be an issue with an old Lambda sensor but I'm not 100% sure. Has anyone else ever experienced something similar? And if you have, what was your experience in getting it repaired at the shop? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hey there! I have some experience with cars and I faced a similar issue with my 2010 Lexus IS F, which is pretty much the same beast under the hood. The ceramic inside my Lambda sensor got dirty and clogged. I took it to my local workshop where the expert mechanics ran some tests, verified the problem, and suggested I replace the sensor. I agreed since the symptoms matched perfectly with my scenario. It cost me about 375€, which seemed fair. You might want to double-check your car model, engine type and the mileage you've driven. That way, I can provide some more detailed advice. Just remember, it's always best to get your car diagnosed by a professional to avoid unexpected costly repairs. Realizing it early can save you some big bucks!

Hey, thanks for the tips! My LFA is at 191795 km and the last service was not too long ago. After hearing from you, I am inclined toward the Lambda sensor issue too. I'll definitely take it to a professional to get it checked out. Fingers crossed it won't break the bank. Cheers for your help!

No worries at all! Given the mileage, it does seem likely that the Lambda sensor might be giving up on you. They usually do around that mileage in these types of vehicles. I'm glad to hear you are considering getting it checked out professionally, that's the best way to go! If it is indeed the Lambda sensor, replacing it could potentially save you from more serious issues down the line. When I fixed mine, the black smoke, power loss and all the other troubling signs vanished. Just don’t skip on the post-repair test drive to verify that all the issues have been resolved. Good luck with your Lexus. Hopefully, it's just the Lambda sensor and nothing more serious or expensive!

Hey! I appreciate the encouragement and advice! Trust, after hearing what you said, I'm definitely not going to skip that post-repair test drive. Heading off to the mechanic first thing tomorrow morning! Hoping for the best here, but prepared for the worst. Gotta take good care of the old beast, right? Thanks again for your help! You've really put my mind at ease with those insightful suggestions. Cheers!
