Seeking Advice on Black Smoke Emission and Reduced Power in 2024 Seat Tarraco: Possible Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor Issue

Poor fuel economy

Unsteady engine

Loss of engine power

Check engine light on

DPF regeneration failure

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Hey there fellow auto-enthusiasts, I'm having an issue with my 2024 Seat Tarraco (Gasoline engine and about 161K on the clock). My car's been belching black smoke whenever I hit the gas, the check engine light stubbornly stays lit, and it's acting like it’s running out of power. The engine's jittery too and the DPF regen keeps failing, not to mention the fuel economy is in the toilet. After some research, it seems my exhaust back pressure sensor might be at fault. Anyone else had this problem? Would appreciate hearing your experiences at the mechanic, particularly if you've had a similar issue. Hate to admit it, but didn't have such a great experience with my last mechanic, so would love some recommendations too. Cheers!

Hey, I totally feel you, had similar trouble with my 2021 Seat Ateca. The same black smoke and that unwanted DPF warning. Plus, the engine feeling like it was running on fumes. Not a good place to be. Your assumption about the exhaust back pressure sensor might be spot on. In my case, it turned out my DPF was severely overloaded. It wasn't just about the sensor; the whole thing had to undergo a deep cleaning process. It was a real pain, the DPF regeneration kept failing on its own. This was a serious job, as an overloaded DPF can lead to various other engine issues. But here's the good news: once they cleaned it and the sensor got reset, my Seat was back to its old self again, like magic. Sounds like it's high time for your Tarraco to hit the garage for proper DPF servicing. Just make sure you pick a good mechanic this time around, ideally one who's nifty with DPFs. Hope this helped, and good luck! Cheers.

Hey there, Thanks a ton for sharing your experience. Sounds painfully similar to what I'm going through right now. So, the overloaded DPF and the sensor were the culprits behind your Seat Ateca's troubles, huh? I get the bit about needing a comprehensive clean-up. Mind if I nag you again about the cost? Do you recall what kind of expense you dealt with for fixing this issue? Also, has there been any recurring problem with your Ateca post-repair? Really appreciate the advice and I'll definitely have to do some mechanic hunting this time around. Cheers!

Hey, Happy to help! So, after my mechanic gave the DPF and the exhaust back pressure sensor a once over, it turned out that the DPF was indeed severely overloaded, just as I suspected. It isn't just the sensor that needs fixing; the entire DPF required a pretty thorough cleanup. The damage to my wallet? Brace yourself, it came to a cool €1325.00. But ever since those fixes, my Ateca's been purring like a kitten again, just like old times. Not a single issue to report since then. Hope your Seat Tarraco gets back on the road soon, good as new. Just make sure you're pinning your hopes on a mechanic who knows their way around DPFs. Cheers and good luck!

Hey there, Wow, €1325.00, huh? That's a hefty sum. But then again, I guess it's worth every penny if your Ateca's running smoothly without a single hitch post-repair. Appreciate you sharing these details. I'm definitely bracing myself now for the upcoming trip to the mechanic. Just want my Tarraco to get back its old charm. Will absolutely ensure to find a mechanic who's proficient with DPFs. Your advice came in really handy. Thanks a lot and safe driving! Cheers!
