Seeking Advice on Addressing Engine Issues and Suspected Misfires in a 2013 Nissan Qashqai

Loss of engine power

Strong exhaust smell

Jerking on acceleration

Check engine light on

Engine shuts off by itself

Unsteady engine

Hey all, I've got a bit of a weird situation with my 2013 Nissan Qashqai Gasoline engine. It's suddenly showing some odd signs - the check engine light keeps turning on, the engine turns off on its own, there's noticeable power loss, and the engine isn't steady as before. Also, gets jerky when I try to accelerate and I’m noticing a strong exhaust smell. I suspect misfires could be causing this. Has anyone else experienced these problems or have any thoughts on what could be causing them? How did you get it fixed? Looking forward to hearing your workshop tales and advice, thanks!

Hey there, sounds like you're having quite the predicament with your Qashqai. I had a somewhat similar issue with my 2011 Nissan Juke a couple of years back. I must make clear I am no mechanic, but I have learned a bit on the fly, so I’d say I have some experience. The thing was, my Juke started showing the same symptoms - unstable engine, power loss, and yes, that annoying check engine light. So, I took it to my local garage, good guys actually, and turns out it was a faulty injection nozzle/injector. The workshop guys ended up replacing it and it cost me around 515 Euro. Not cheap, but it certainly did the trick, haven't had any trouble since then. However, every car's a bit different and your issue could be caused by something else too, so it's definitely best to get it checked out professionally. Can you give some more info on your vehicle’s mileage and if you’ve had any recent repair work done? That could help narrow things down. Good luck!

Thanks for sharing your experience! It's good to hear I’m not alone here. Your issue sounds very similar to what I'm going through, yet it's strange as well because my Qashqai performs smoothly sometimes, especially after warming up for a while. Regarding the extra info you asked for, my vehicle's mileage is around 71,242 KM with the latest service done just last month. The guys at the garage looked over it but didn't mention anything about injection nozzles. But I'll definitely ask them to check on it based on your suggestion. And yes, I do plan to take it this week for a thorough check — hoping it won't hit my pocket too hard. Thanks again for your advice!

No worries, glad I could chip in with my two cents! And hey, sometimes I think our cars just like to keep us guessing, huh? All part of their charm, until it hits the wallet, of course... Well, 71k KM mileage is pretty decent and with the service just done, I'd say injectors could well be in the clear. But still, doesn't hurt to be sure, like you said. When my Juke had this problem, it also ran fine at times, especially in the morning or when the engine was cool. That inconsistency is honestly a real headache! Just thinking out loud, apart from the injector, it could be some malfunctioning sensor maybe? Sensors can cause these types of symptoms too - if they're failing, they might not be sending the right signals to the engine, causing misfires and what have you. Again, I’m no certified mechanic, just going off my past adventures with my car. In any case, getting a thorough check done should help pin down the root cause, or at least start narrowing it down. Fingers crossed it's nothing too pricey! Let us know how it goes. We're all in this car-owning journey together. Drive safe and good luck with the diagnostics!

A malfunctioning sensor? Interesting thought! I hadn't considered that. You're spot on about the inconsistency - it's like throwing darts in the dark trying to figure out what's up. But, yeah, fingers crossed it's something not too hard on the pocket. I have noted down your suggestions, certainly makes me feel more prepared before heading to the garage. I promise to report back with whatever the fix turns out to be. Hopefully, my next post is about smoother roads and a steadier engine. Thanks again, it really helps chatting with someone who's been through the same kind of issues. Wishing you safe and jerk-free drives as well! Cheers!
