Seeking Advice on a 2010 Volvo V50 Diesel with Power Loss, Jerky Acceleration, and Other Symptoms

Hey fellow car enthusiasts, I've been experiencing some weird behaviors with my 2010 Volvo V50 Diesel lately - loss of engine power, jerky acceleration, poor mileage, a strong exhaust smell, a longer cold start time, black smoke on acceleration, and the check engine light's on. I'm suspecting a faulty fuel pressure sensor, but I'm interested in your thoughts on this. Has anyone else had similar symptoms and how did you get it resolved at the workshop? I appreciate any tips or experiences you can share. Cheers!

Hey there! I'm no pro, but I've got some car tinkering experience under my belt. I once had a very similar issue with my 2008 Volvo V40 Diesel. The problem ended up being defective cable connections. The symptoms were a tad different though, but the Check Engine Light was a common sign. Setting me back by 155 Euro, the mechanic firm I usually go to sorted out the problem. They did a fantastic job as always and the car has been running smooth ever since. That being said, I reckon you're on the right track suspecting the fuel pressure sensor. However, I'd urge you to get a professional opinion too, just to be sure since symptoms can sometimes be tricky. Can you let us know more about your car's history and maintenance routine? It might help to narrow down the possibilities. Keep us posted!

Hey, thanks for the heads up. About my car, it's clocked 116530 km and the last service was a routine one, nothing significant done. Been pretty regular with maintenance and all. But I agree, time to head to the pros, can't risk it. Will certainly keep you posted!

Hey again! Appreciate the quick update. Your maintenance routine sure sounds solid. And hats off for managing such a decent mileage count on your Volvo V50! It's a good call to take your beloved ride to the pros - you're right that it's best not to take any chances. When it comes to the issue at hand, it could be a number of things - from the fuel pressure sensor you mentioned to faulty injectors, a clogged EGR valve or even a poor burning process inside the cylinder. Based on my previous ordeal with my Volvo V40, I highly recommend letting them do an extensive diagnostic test. I know it could be a little pricey, but trust me, it can save you from a whole lot of troubles down the line, and hey, it's cheaper than playing the guessing game! Looking forward to hearing about how it goes and what they find. Good luck and safe drives!

Hey, cheers for the well-wishes and advice! I ain't thrilled about the expense of a full-on diagnostic but I get your point. It'll likely save me more headaches (and cash) in the long run. Gonna take her in in a few days and cross my fingers they won't find anything too serious. I'll be sure to update here after the workshop visit. Safe drives to you too!
