Seeking Advice on 2024 Seat Tarraco Engine Issues and Reliable Mechanic Recommendations

Loss of engine power

Stalling while idling

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Check engine light on

Jerking on acceleration

Shaking while idling

Poor fuel economy

Unsteady engine

Car won't start

Hey folks, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my 2024 Seat Tarraco, Gasoline engine, clocked 124,540 KM so far. Recently, it's been giving me grief - black smoke on acceleration, drop in power, engine shakes and jerks, then the dreaded check engine light. Oh, and the fuel economy's gone for a toss too. I've faced unusual stalling while idling and even worse, it sometimes wouldn't start. My hunch is that the ignition coil might be on the blink or there's some misfiring issue going down. Had a nightmare experience at the mechanic's last time, so would appreciate any tips you guys with similar issues might have. Any advice on a reliable mechanic would be a real lifesaver too! Thanks in advance!

Hey, I feel your pain. Had a similar problem with my 2021 Seat Ateca ST not a while ago. Same symptoms - rough idling, drop in power, that annoying check engine light - the works. Turns out, the ignition coil was the problem, just like your hunch. More specifically, the cable connection to the ignition coil was defective. Basically, the connection had become loose over time, making the ignition coil ineffective. This, in turn, led to unusual misfires and those nasty black smoke belches. My mechanic was pretty thorough with this stuff - first, he traced out the wiring from the ignition coil all the way back to the ECU and ECM. He figured out that the faulty connection was messing with the signal transmission hence the stalling and misfiring. Then, he fixed the connection issue, checked for other damaged wires (none found, thankfully), and then reset the error code in the onboard computer. Once he was done with all that, my sweet ride was back to purring like a kitten. So yeah, your mechanic should check the cable connection to the ignition coil and the entire wiring system associated with it. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Hey there. Much of the torments you've described I've also experienced with my '21 Ateca ST. It was definitely not fun, and I can empathize with the headaches you're currently going through. From dealing with those particular troubles, I found out the main culprit was the cable connection to the ignition coil, exactly like you suspected. As soon as the connection was reestablished properly, each problem seemed to disappear one by one, all the way from the stalling issues to the clouds of black smoke. I’m obviously a convert to making sure the connections are all firmly in place now; the lessons they teach us, hey? Speaking of lessons, would you recall the amount you were charged for this fix? And have you had any recurring signs of trouble since the repair? Cheers!

Hey there! Ah, the money question, right? So, to reestablish the faulty cable connection to the ignition coil, my mechanic charged me 365€. Go figure! But seeing my '21 Ateca ST back on track felt even better than a double espresso, so no grudges there. And as for the encore performance of the issues, well, the good news is that since that repair, my car has been behaving like an absolute angel. The initial problem with the ignition coil's defective or misfiring was sorted out. I haven't had to deal with any black smoke vomit, engine tantrums or unusual stalling ever since. So, let's hope it stays this way. Keep me posted on how your Seat Tarraco decides to behave after the fix, yeah? Till then, fingers crossed! Cheers!

Hey, your response gave me a sigh of relief. Considering the intricacy of the problem, €365.00 doesn't sound that bad particularly if it brings back my Seat Tarraco to its old glory. I'm all in for any resolution that doesn't involve a continuous black smoke show and engine drama. I'm sincerely hoping that my ride adopts the angelic behavior like your Ateca ST after the fix. Just thinking about it puts a broad smile on my face. I'll surely keep you in the loop about the developments post-repair. Till then, hoping for the best. Cheers!
