Seeking Advice on 2021 Seat Tarraco's Air Conditioning Issue: Possible Solar Sensor Problem

Insufficient Cooling/Heating

Air conditioning blows warm air

Hey fellow car enthusiasts, I'm having a bit of a puzzling issue with my 2021 Seat Tarraco. Lately, the air conditioning's been blowing warm air and it just isn't cooling or heating like it used to. I suspect it could be the solar sensor that's playing up. Have any of you experienced something similar and if so, how was it resolved at your workshop? Would really appreciate any tips to get ahead of it. Cheers!

Hey there! So I did have a somewhat similar issue with my 2019 Seat Leon, but it was actually due to a defective wiring harness. I'm no car expert, but I'm comfortable with some basic troubleshooting. The repair at the workshop set me back by about €155, but it solved the problem, as they traced and replaced the defective sections of the wiring harness. Before I can give you more specific advice though, could you share any more details? Like, have you noticed any other symptoms or error codes, and have there been any recent changes to your vehicle? I know your Tarraco is a bit different from my Leon, but I'll do my best to help you out!

Hey, thanks for chiming in with your experience! You know, I did recall hearing a faint humming or buzzing noise near the dashboard recently. Also, I noticed my battery seems to be draining a bit faster than usual. But I wasn't sure if these symptoms were related to the aircon trouble. As with recent changes, nothing significant. Last service was at 130201 KM and no error codes showing up on the dash, thankfully. Do you reckon it's time to hit the workshop soon? Or is there any DIY trick I could pull off before it bleeds me dry? Appreciate your help. Cheers!

Hey! Considering you mentioned a humming or buzzing noise and a faster-draining battery, there's a chance your compressor clutch might be failing. Now, I'm no mechanic, but these signs might point to that issue. The AC compressor clutch is a component that moves the air conditioning system's refrigerant. When the AC is switched on, the clutch engages, and if it's damaged or failing, it can create a buzzing noise. Furthermore, if it's stuck engaged, it can cause the battery to drain faster as the AC system's always drawing power. If it turns out to be the AC Compressor clutch, depending on your location, it can cost around €250 to €600 (parts and labor) to get it replaced in a workshop. However, before you decide to shell out that money, you can test this theory at home, if you're up for it. With the car turned on, get someone to turn on and off the AC while you watch the AC compressor clutch under the hood. It should engage and disengage smoothly. If it doesn't, that might be your culprit right there. I'd recommend getting it to a professional if this sounds a bit intimidating, though. Keep us updated! (Note: Never interfere with spinning parts when the engine is running, take all necessary precautions). Cheers!

Well, that's some solid advice you've given me. I never imagined it could be something like an AC compressor clutch! Honestly, I'm glad I asked you folks about this. That test sounds doable, I might give it a shot before heading to the professionals. I'll definitely ensure to be safe while doing it. My wallet is already screaming, so hoping it's not as serious as a compressor clutch replacement! I'll keep you posted about how it turns out. Thanks heaps for the heads up! Cheers.
