Seeking Advice on 2020 Volvo V90 Diesel Issues: Check Engine Light, DPF Regeneration, and Possible Ad-Blue System Pressure Problems

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

DPF regeneration failure

Check engine light on

Hey folks, my 2020 Volvo V90 Diesel is giving me some trouble. Got the check engine light on, my DPF isn't regenerating, and there's a warning light on the speedo. I've got a hunch the issue might be the Ad-Blue system pressure being too low, but I'm not entirely sure. Has anyone else experienced these symptoms and how did you resolve it at the workshop? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey there! I've had a similar issue with my 2018 Volvo S90 Diesel. I won't claim to be a mechanic, but I do have some experience tinkering around older cars and diagnosing issues. In my case, the problem ended up being a faulty Ad-Blue tank. Took her down to my local workshop, and after some back and forth, they confirmed it and replaced the whole unit for me. Cost me about 1620 Euro, not at all cheap, but it did the trick. No more warning lights and the DPF has been regenerating smoothly since. But that's just my experience, your car's issue might be completely different. Can you provide more info? Any specific error codes? Any odd sounds or issues apart from the lights and the DPF not regenerating? More info could help pinpoint the issue. Hope this helps a bit!

Hey, thanks for the insight! Glad to hear your experience, might be something to look into. Don't have any specific codes yet as I haven't been able to hook it up to a reader, planned to do that in the next couple of days. No odd sounds or anything, just the warning lights and DPF. I've clocked around 80141 KM on it so far, ran smooth as a whistle until now. Latest service was a routine one, everything checked out fine at the time. I'll update once I have more info, thanks again for your help!

Hey! No problem at all, always happy to try and help out. Definitely a good idea to hook it up to an error code reader when you have the chance, could give you a much clearer idea of what might be causing the issue. In my experience with my own Volvo, issues with the Ad-Blue system might not necessarily trigger an error code, but the check engine light and DPF regeneration failure should definitely show something. Given the KM you've clocked on your Volvo V90, it might not be a bad idea to give the whole Ad-Blue system a check too. These systems can develop faults or blockages over time and can have a knock-on effect on the DPF regeneration process too. I'd suggest asking your mechanic to give it once over next time you take your car in. Fingers crossed it's nothing too big or expensive, mechanical problems can be a real pain in the neck. Let me know once you have more info, look forward to hearing how it goes. Best of luck!

Great advice, that hadn't even crossed my mind. I'll definitely ask my mechanic to check the entire Ad-Blue system next time I’m at the garage. I appreciate your help, the minor troubleshooting and your time. As soon as I've got some news I'll be back here to update you. You’ve been a great help, bud. Thanks again and fingers crossed it's not a too serious issue! I'll keep you posted. Cheers!

Hi Janty, sorry to hear about your troubles. Given the error codes and the engine management light, it's possible that there's an issue with the power pulse system or the Ad-Blue system. I would recommend getting a professional mechanic to inspect these systems. They can perform a more detailed diagnosis using specialized tools and their expertise. Please keep us updated on your progress and don't hesitate to ask if you have any further questions. Remember, issues with these systems can affect the performance and safety of your vehicle, so it's important to get them checked out as soon as possible.
