Seeking Advice on 2019 Seat Tarraco Performance Issues, Suspected Rail Pressure Sensor Fault

Engine shuts off by itself

Unsteady engine

Loss of engine power

Strong exhaust smell

Jerking on acceleration

Poor fuel economy

Check engine light on

Stalling while idling

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Hey folks, I'm having a bit of a head-scratcher with my 2019 Seat Tarraco (gasoline version). Lately, it's been acting up in a weird way with a bunch of symptoms like spewing out black smoke when I step on the gas, frequent engine shutdowns, and reduced power. It's also super shaky, jerks during acceleration, drinks fuel like crazy, and has a strong exhaust smell. On top of that, it stalls when idle. I was thinking it could be due to a wonky rail pressure sensor. Anyone else had this issue and figured out the problem? What did your workshop do to fix it? Would appreciate your shared experiences and tips on tackling this. Cheers!

Hey there. I've had a similar trouble with my 2017 Seat Alhambra (Diesel), so slightly different but pretty similar model. Now, I'm no car guru, but I've picked up a bit of knowledge messing around with my own car. Seeing your symptoms and your theory about the rail pressure sensor, it hit home to me because I had a similar wonky issue some time back. Turned out, the pressure sensor was at fault just like you suspected. My local workshop had a look and sure enough, the pressure sensor was defective. Got it replaced and it cost me around 240€. After that, my Alhambra was running as smooth as a freshly paved road. Hopefully, you might have the same problem since it's an easy fix. Mind telling me the mileage you've racked up on your Tarraco and how often you get it serviced? That could help zero in on your problem. Let me know!

Hey, appreciate the quick response. To answer your question, my Tarraco has clocked around 79176 KM till now and the last service was done just a few months back. If the issue turns out to be the pressure sensor, I won't mind shelling out those bucks for smooth drives again. Let's see how things unfold. Thanks again!

No worries! Interesting that the last service was done recently. At that mileage, some parts will eventually show their age. It could very well be the pressure sensor bothering you. Alhambra started misbehaving around similar mileage. Also, don't forget to ask your workshop to also check other components like the fuel injectors and the EGR system, as these could also mirror some of your symptoms. They might also want to have a squiz at the Mass Air Flow sensor and the O2 sensor. Keep us posted. Crossing my fingers for an easy fix for you!

Sure thing! I'll make sure they check those other components too. You've been a huge help, and I've got my fingers crossed as well. Will keep you folks updated. Cheers and thanks a bunch!
