Seeking Advice on 2019 Nissan Serena's Engine Shutting Off, ABS/DSC Failure, Dimming Lights, and Weak Battery

Engine shuts off by itself

|

Dim or flickering lights

|

Weak battery when starting the engine

|

ABS/DSC system is not working

Hey folks, I've been having some weird issues with my 2019 Nissan Serena, Gasoline engine. Out of the blue, the engine starts shutting off, my ABS/DSC isn't working, my lights are dimming or flickering, and the battery seems weak when I start the engine. I reckon it may be a generator malfunction, but I'm not confident. Has anyone experienced something similar? How did you diagnose and fix it? Appreciate any tips or lessons from your experiences. Thanks!

Hey, I had a similar sorta issue with my 2017 Nissan X-Trail, Diesel engine. I'm no mechanic, my experience with cars is low but I try to learn as I go. In my case, the generator was indeed defective. I took it to my local workshop, where they confirmed the problem. The cost to get it sorted was a hefty 960 Euro, but at least the problem was fixed. Could be that you're dealing with the same issue. You may wanna get your car checked. Also, could you provide the mileage and if you've ever replaced your battery? It'll help me give you more specific advice. Hope this helps!

Thanks for sharing your experience. My Serena's traveled quite a bit, it's already at 172670 KM, but the battery's been replaced just last year, so I was hoping it would hold up a bit longer. Although, considering what you've faced, I'm starting to think you're right about the generator. Guess I need to take her to a repair shop ASAP. Hope it won't cost an arm and a leg!

Hey again, considering that your battery is pretty fresh, I'd definitely put my money on the generator. High mileage on your Serena can sometimes wear out the important parts like the generator. And yeah, I hope for you it won't be as heavy on the wallet as it was in my case! If I can give you another piece of advice, try to not put it off for too long. The longer you wait, the more damage could potentially be done. Best of luck with it! Hope it all gets sorted out soon.

Cheers! Your advice has been real helpful. I'm planning to take the car in first thing tomorrow morning and get everything sorted. Better safe than sorry, eh? Here's hoping the repair costs won't leave a massive hole in my pocket. I'll update you once I've got a diagnosis. Thanks again for the help!
