Seeking Advice on 2019 Hyundai Kona's Possible Battery Issue

Dim or flickering lights

Weak battery when starting the engine

Hey! I'm scratching my head over an issue with my 2019 Hyundai Kona (Gasoline version). Lately, starting the engine has been a bit of a fight because of a weak battery, and my lights have been quite dim, even flickering. I'm suspecting that the vehicle battery might be severely discharged due to self-discharge, but I'm not entirely convinced yet. Has anyone else experienced similar problems with their Hyundai Kona? If so, how did your workshop resolve it? Any advice or shared experiences would be really appreciated. Cheers!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2017 Hyundai Tucson, which is pretty close to yours. I'm not a car expert, more like a beginner honestly, but I do have some experience with this kind of problem. My workshop checked the vehicle battery, but the main problem turned out to be a defective battery sensor. To fix it, I was charged about 315€ - not cheap, but definitely worth it considering the peace of mind it brought me. You might be dealing with the same issue, but without more detailed info about your Kona, it's hard to be certain. So, could you provide more vehicle details? That would really help give a more specific solution. Hope you get it sorted soon! Cheers!

Hey there! I really appreciate your advice. My Kona's got a run of 102126 KM till now, and the last service was a few months back. I'm gonna take it back to my mechanic and tell him to check the battery sensor as per your suggestion. Ain't really eager to spend that much money, but peace of mind is priceless right? Will update you guys once I got something. Thanks a million! Cheers!

No worries at all! That's a decent run your Kona's had, pretty impressive. I totally get your hesitation about spending that much on a battery sensor repair, I was in your shoes not long ago. But like we both agreed, peace of mind doesn't come cheap these days. Just a quick note to tell your mechanic – have him check the alternator as well, not just the battery and sensor. In my case, it was a cheesy battery sensor, but dim or flickering lights can also indicate a faulty alternator. Not trying to complicate things or add to your bill, by the way, just sharing what my workshop experience taught me. Fingers crossed it's a minor issue for you and gets sorted out soon. Keep us posted on how it goes. Cheers!

Hey, thanks for the tip about the alternator! I wouldn't want my mechanic to miss that if it's the culprit. I'm setting up an appointment for first thing Monday and will definitely mention the alternator too. Also, no worries about adding to the bill, I'd rather shell out some cash now than get stranded on a lonely highway at night! Really appreciate your help, I'll keep you all updated. Cheers and have a great weekend!
