Seeking Advice on 2019 Gasoline Seat Tarraco's Engine Issues and Quality of Mechanic Services

Weird engine noise

Check engine light on

Overheating

Oil light on

Metal shavings in oil

Hey folks, I'm having a bit of a car trouble here and could really use your help. I have a 2019 Gasoline Seat Tarraco which has clocked over 192,570 KM and it's acting up lately. The check engine light and oil light are on, it's overheating, making a strange noise from the engine, and to top it off, I've found metal shavings in the oil! Since my last visit to the mechanic wasn't really satisfactory, I'm thinking this could be a sign of contaminated engine oil. Anyone dealt with something similar? Could you share your experiences and the quality of service you received at your mechanic? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey, I've got a 2016 Seat Ateca so I might be able to shed some light. Had a similar issue not too long ago. My beast was acting up, overheating and the noises were not pretty, so I feel you. Ended up having a major engine malfunction - turned out metal shavings were getting into the oil, just as you're describing. The check engine and oil lights were on too, just like in your case. The cause? A defective timing chain. It was wearing out and sending bits of metal straight into the oil. That was exactly what caused the noise and overheating. Had to take it in to the garage and they sorted it out - but was a serious issue, not going to sugarcoat it. In your shoes, I'd get that checked asap! Don't wait to fix that. Serious damage to your engine can happen if it's ignored. Good luck!

Hey there, I'm having the same problems with my 2020 Seat Tarraco! Overheating, weird noises, the whole nine yards. After reading your post, it got me thinking, could it be the timing chain for me too? So, ballpark figure, how much did it set you back to sort out your engine issues? And just checking in, has anything else popped up since you got it fixed? Fingers crossed it was a one-off thing. Cheers for sharing your experience, it's been super helpful!

Hey there, good to hear from you! I'd certainly recommend you to get your timing chain checked, just as a precaution if you know what I mean? Could very well be the same issue, and trust me, you don't want to let that slide! As for the cost bit, it did put a bit of a dent in my wallet. Cost me about 625.00 Euro to get the whole thing sorted. But hey, after that my Seat Ateca runs like a dream! No overheating, no weird noise, so pretty much well worth it. And most importantly the engine oil contamination got taken care of, so no worries there anymore. Haven't had a single problem since but crossing my fingers as well, touch wood! Good luck with your beast. Hope it all works out for you. Cheers!

Wow, cheers for all those insights guys! Seems like we're dealing with a pretty similar issue here. This chat has been super helpful. And, that pricing, it's a bit steep, isn't it? But well, if it gets the job done, I suppose it's worth it. And to hear that you've managed to fix your problems and now your Seat Ateca is running smoothly, that's a confidence boost for me. So, I've got to get myself to the garage ASAP and get the timing chain checked and hopefully, sort out this engine oil contamination issue. Can't risk any major engine damage, right! Again, appreciate all your help and advice, fingers crossed my Tarraco pulls through as well. Happy driving, folks!
