Seeking Advice on 2018 Dacia Sandero's Engine Power Loss, Flashing ABS Light, and Potential Speed Sensor Issue

ABS warning light

Loss of traction

Loss of engine power

ABS/DSC system is not working

Hey! I'm having a bit of a weird issue with my 2018 Dacia Sandero's Gasoline engine. Lately, it's been losing power and the ABS warning light keeps flashing. Also, I've noticed interestingly that the car doesn't hold well on the road anymore - feels like the ABS/DSC isn't working right. My initial guess is it could be something to do with the speed sensor's supply voltage. Anybody out there experienced this before? Would be great if you could share how you fixed it or any tips your local garage gave. Thanks!

Hey there! I can totally relate to your issue. I'm more of a motorsports enthusiast with some experience in car problems, not a pro, but I've been in your shoes with my 2016 Dacia Logan. Turns out our model shares a lot of the same systems, so this might be helpful. My local workshop discovered a faulty component, actually, a sensor integrated into it. The culprit was dragging the whole ABS/DSC system down along with the engine's performance. They replaced the faulty sensor by a new one, and voilà! The cost was around 170€, not too bank-breaking thankfully. Before I can go any further, though, could you provide me with your engine information, as well as whether or not there have been any recent changes such as interior modifications or replacements? This bit of info could really help you have a more personalized suggestion. Cheers!

Thanks for your response! Appreciate your sharing the experience. I haven't made any interior modifications or replacements recently. As for my engine, it's a 0.9 TCe 90HP gas engine. It's got about 47042 KM on her and the last service was pretty routine with no major issues reported. Hoping it's a simple sensor swap like in your case. Cheers!

Hey! Thanks for the additional info. Given your specific model and engine type, it seems even more likely that your sensor could be the culprit. Your engine is similar to mine, and the ABS/DSC systems are practically twins on our two Dacias. What I can suggest based on my experience (again, remember I'm not a pro), is that you check with your local workshop and ask them to take a look at your speed sensor. They will probably run a diagnostic check first (that's common) to identify any potential issues. Just in case though, ask them to specifically check out the sensor I mentioned - they might overlook it, and it fits your symptoms spot on. Also, keep in mind, this little replacement doesn't generally cost much, certainly in the 'manageable' range. The peace of mind you get afterward, priceless! Good luck. Let us know how it goes. Cheers!

you're a lifesaver! Can't thank you enough for the helpful suggestion. You've given me direction and eased off some worry. I'll get onto my local workshop asap and get this speed sensor checked out along with a full diagnostic. Let's hope it's just this darn sensor causing all the fuss. And, true - a worthy spend for that peace of mind. Will definitely keep you guys updated on the situation. Thanks again, cheers!
