Seeking Advice on 2016 VW Touareg Diesel Engine Control Issues and Random Shut Offs

Hi! I'm experiencing a peculiar issue with my 2016 VW Touareg Diesel. The engine light is popping on, plus I'm getting warning lights on the speedometer and the car is shutting off randomly. Not to mention, it's even resisting to start at times, with a noticeable drop in power and unstable engine running. I suspect there might be an engine control malfunction but I'm keen on getting your opinions too. Have anyone of you faced something similar and how did your local garage rectify it? I'm interested in hearing your experiences and any troubleshooting advice might be of great help. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! Had a similar issue with my 2014 VW Tiguan Diesel. Not an expert in cars, but I'd say I have some experience tinkering under the hood. In my case, the local workshop guys determined it was a defective throttle body causing the engine control malfunction. They replaced it and everything went back to normal. The hit on my pocket was around 625 Euro. I'd recommend getting your car to a workshop ASAP. Could be the same issue, but without knowing more specifics about your vehicle, it's hard to say for sure. Care to share your mileage, service history, or anything else unusual happening? Might be able to help a bit more then. All the best!

Hey, appreciate your input! My mileage's at a decent 225981KM now, and the last servicing was done alongside a general checkup around 2 months ago. Been running smooth until this issue popped up. On your suggestion, I think I'll get it to a trusted mechanic for a thorough checkup this weekend, particularly focusing on the throttle body thing. I hope it doesn't leave a big hole in my wallet though. Thanks again your advice really helps!

Absolutely! It sounds like you've taken great care of your Touareg so far. That's a pretty decent mileage, not gonna lie. Considering the last service was only a couple months back, I'm leaning more towards a mechanical failure rather than a missing maintenance issue. And yep, getting it checked by a pro is definitely the best move at this point. Depending on what they find, could be a simple clean up or, worse case scenario, replacement. And trust me, you really don't want that engine light on for longer than necessary: it might cause additional problems and increase the fixing cost. Good luck, and fingers crossed it won't be too heavy on your pocket. Give us a shout if you have any more questions!

The picture's much clearer now. Your first-hand experience has given me a pretty good idea about what might be happening with my Touareg. I'll get it to the garage and will let you guys know how it turns out. For now, it's fingers crossed and hoping for the best, haha. And, thanks again for the help and advice, really appreciate it! Cheers!
