Seeking Advice on 2016 Volvo XC60 Potential Oil Pressure Issue and Trustworthy Mechanic Recommendations

Metal shavings in oil

Oil light on

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hey fellow car enthusiasts, I've got a bit of a situation with my 2016 Volvo XC60 (petrol model) with about 71,175km on the clock. After an unpleasant experience in the past, I'm naturally wary. Lately, my oil light's nagging me, found some nasty metal bits in the oil, and there's an ominous warning light on my speedo. I'm suspicious about a possible engine oil pressure control issue. Anybody experienced anything similar and can recommend a trustworthy mechanic? Your shared experience would mean a lot. Thanks!

Hey there! I totally get why this might make you nervous. I've been in a similar spot with my 2013 Volvo XC90. It turned out to be a problem with the Cable harness on the oil pressure control valve being oily/defective. Just like you, I had the oil warning light come on, and wasn't feeling too comfortable about it, seeing it's related to the engine's lifeblood. A good friend of mine, who's a mechanic, took a look and found the faulty component. Apparently, oil contamination can play havoc with the wiring and connections, causing false alerts and generally rising your blood pressure. It wasn't a straightforward oil change kinda job, and my friend had to replace the whole cable harness. I wouldn't call it a trivial issue exactly, but it also didn't mean a total engine catastrophe either. Once fixed, my XC90 was like back to its good old reliable self, no more warning lights or other quirks. So, if you have something similar, there's hope yet. Ask around for a dependable mechanic, have them diagnose it properly, and you should be sorted. Good luck with it!

Hey, wow, that's a relief to know that your XC90 got back to working just fine! I'm hoping it's the same problem with my XC60, nothing catastrophic. Do you happen to remember approxily how much the fix ran for, including your friend's labor charges? Also, has any additional related issues surfaced since the fix? Cheers!

Hey there! Glad to provide some relief! On the money side of things, it set me back about 350 Euro to replace the cable harness, including the labor charges. Not exactly pocket change, but way better than needing a whole new motor, right? And yep, ever since the fix, my XC90 has been ticking along just fine. That scare with the engine oil pressure control malfunction was taken care of, haven't had a repeat, or anything of the sort. Those engines are tough as nails once you sort out their little quirks! Honestly, I'm thinking your XC60 might just need a similar kind of TLC. Hope your situation turns out to be just as manageable, bud! Best of luck, and keep us posted!

Hey, 350 Euro might sound a bit steep, but it's indeed way better than buying a new engine or god forbid, an entirely new car! Your words put me at more ease now, I'm really hoping it's just a faulty Cable harness issue and not something more severe. Really appreciate you sharing your experience and giving some solid advice. I'm going to reel in a good mechanic soon and get it diagnosed. Hopefully, my XC60 can stand the test of time just like your XC90. Thank you for the well-wishes! Will definitely keep you all updated on the progress. Thanks again and drive safe, everybody!
