Hey! Thanks for sharing your experience! I appreciate you trying to find a solution. My MPV Petrol's got 124,002 KM on the clock currently and had its latest service just a couple of months ago. Suppose I'll have to plan for another visit to my mechanic, ideally someone who has a solid understanding of these Japanese engines. I'm a bit of a rookie, but I now have a better idea about this Wastegate valve you mentioned. Will take a look at it and chat with my mechanic about it too. As for the exact model, it's a Mazda MPV LX-SPORT, had this baby for a good few years now. To describe its overall condition, besides the issues I mentioned, it's kickin' alright. Does seem like the previous owner had not taken great care, had to fix a few things here and there but you know, second-hand stuff. Anyway, cheers! Your insight's been of great help. Keep me posted if any more thoughts come to mind. Safe driving out there!
Hey there, Good to see you're being proactive about this! The mileage you mentioned is within the range where some parts start to show their age. Your MPV's symptoms remind me a lot of what my CX-5 was going through, so it's definitely worth checking the wastegate valve, but also don't overlook other possibilities. Referring specifically to your black smoke problem, this could indicate unburnt fuel, possibly due to an overfueling issue. The likely culprits are the injectors, fuel pump, or even the air filter. Unsteady engine power and the jerks on acceleration could be due to poor fuel supply. I reckon you might want to get your mechanic to check the turbocharger assembly as well, as a malfunctioning one can cause whistling noises and drop in power. The turbocharger uses the engine's exhaust gases to pump more air into the engine for better performance. Any leaks or issues with it can often lead to strange hissing sounds, poor performance and black smoke from the exhaust. Remember, I'm speaking from my personal experience and I don't want to spook you. Let your mechanic have a thorough look and diagnose it accurately, he's the pro after all. The most probable cause could be a single malfunctioning part, or a combination of things. Keep us updated on how it goes, and feel free to shoot any more questions or concerns! Drive safe and good luck with the Mazda. They're sturdy machines, it should be back in top form soon!
Hey again, Thanks for the detailed response. Added pointers about overfueling issue and checking the turbocharger assembly have been taken on board. I'll definitely pass these on to my mechanic. You're right, second-hand vehicles do come with their quirks and require a bit of TLC now and then. These Japanese engines are reliable, just need to give 'em some love and they'll purr like a kitten. I'm relieved to hear this isn't something out of the ordinary and can, hopefully, be sorted by changing a few parts. I'll be sure to keep you all updated. Once again, truly appreciate your help. The Mazda should be zoom-zooming on the roads soon enough, fingers crossed. Drive safe and take care of that CX-5 of yours! Would love to hear more about your experiences with it sometime. Until then, cheers and happy motoring!
Hey there, It's quite interesting that you mention this issue; I experienced something akin to what you're outlining here with my own 2014 Mazda CX-5. Now, I'm no expert car mechanic, just your regular dude with a bit of grease on his hands from changing wheels and doing oil changes from time to time, but I could tell that there's a lot of weird stuff going on under the bonnet. So, I took it to my local garage and we ended up discovering that the issue had to do with the Wastegate valve. It was pretty chewed up and totally messed up the boost pressure. The mechanic had to replace the whole thing and it set me back around 860€. Of course, the exact issue may differ from car to car, but that was my experience. That said, could you give a few more specifics about your MPV Petrol? Things like the exact model, mileage, and its overall condition could help me give better advice. Looking forward to helping a fellow Mazda owner out wherever I can!
