Seeking Advice on 2015 Lexus NX Petrol Engine Issues Related to Secondary Air Valve Control

Check engine light on

|

Poor fuel economy

|

Strong exhaust smell

Hey everyone, I've got a 2015 Lexus NX with a petrol engine that's been acting up. The check engine light's on, my fuel economy's dipped and it smells like my exhaust's working overtime. My hunch is that it's got something to do with the secondary air valve control acting funny. Anyone else run into this issue before and had it fixed? I'm really keen to know what sort of experiences you had in the workshop and how they resolved it. Cheers!

Hey there, sounds like you're having a bit of a stinker! So, I'm not exactly a car expert, probably say I've got some experience. Owned a 2013 Lexus RX, petrol too. Similar things started popping up with it. Turned out it had a defective electric switching valve. Took it to my local workshop and they were pretty quick about the whole thing. Fixed it up in a day - and I was 140 Euro lighter! Not something I enjoyed, but definitely sorted out the problem. Has your NX shown any other odd symptoms? It might help me provide a bit more insight into your issue. Catch you in a bit!

Hey! Thanks for your quick reply. Apart from what I've mentioned, the only other weird thing it's doing is idling a bit rough. And I've clocked up quite a few kilometers --180634 km to be exact. Got the last service done around 6 months ago. Your experience with the electric switching valve does kinda sound similar. I think I'll have it checked out soon. Will update here once it's done. Thanks for the advice!

No worries! Glad I could pitch in. Interesting, the rough idling might be another clue it's an issue with the electric switching valve. Often, the symptoms in these cases are all over the place, which makes it a difficult problem to pin down. 180k km is a good run - these machines are built like tanks! Just for peace of mind though, getting a professional to take a look is probably best. I'd say bring up these sneaky symptoms with them too, could help them spot the real issue faster. Keep us all posted on how it goes. Fingers crossed it's an easy fix like mine was! Electricity and cars, eh? It's all a mystery to me. Stay safe on those roads! Cheers!

Yeah, cars these days are like puzzles with countless pieces, aren't they?! You've been a huge help though, helping me make some sense outta this oddball situation. Seems like my car needs another check-up with the doc! Will ring 'em up first thing tomorrow and spill all the deets from rough idling to the whole nine yards. Hopefully, it won't blow a hole in my pocket. Here's to praying it's just the electric switching valve acting up like in your case! Will come back to this space to share whatever pans out of it. Thanks a ton for the guidance! Drive safe, cheers!
