Seeking Advice on 2015 Hyundai Elantra Transmission Issues and ABS Warning Light

Transmission slips/shifts erratically

Hey all, I'm dealing with a bit of an offbeat problem with my 2015 Hyundai Elantra, powered by a gasoline engine. Recently, my transmission has been acting funky, slipping and shifting all over the place. I've also started seeing my ABS warning light pop on and I'm hearing some really weird whining or grinding sounds. My hunch is this could be something to do with the Transfer case running on emergency control. Anyone faced something similar and got it fixed? I'm keen to learn from your experience. Cheers!

Hey there, had a similar issue with my 2017 Hyundai Sonata, can't call myself a car geek, but I know my way around a little. My workshop suggested the issue might be a consequent error in the dynamic stability control. Good news, haha, the fix didn't cost me a dime, possibly under a warranty or a recall, so I'd suggest checking that with your dealer or workshop. Can you confirm if your Elantra is manual or automatic? Also, does your ABS light stay on or does it come and go? More details would help in giving a more precise advice. Long story short, your best bet would be your local dealer or workshop. Peace!

Hey, thanks for the helpful reply. My Elantra is an automatic and as for the ABS light, it just pops on and off unusually. Mileage on the car is 25402 KM and had her last service quite recently. I'll dig a bit into that dynamic stability control issue with my workshop. Fingers crossed it's under the warranty or a recall as you mentioned. Appreciate your piece of advice! Cheers!

No worries at all, happy to help! So, on my Sonata, it was a similar case with the ABS light. As it was a recall issue, the dealership took care of it, no questions asked. The odd whining or grinding noise you mentioned could be related to a failing ABS pump or even the transmission issue, but again, your dealership should be able to pin that down. Since your Elantra is an automatic and not putting out too many miles, the transmission problem is a bit surprising, but Hyundai's been known for some tranny issues around that model/year, unfortunately. On my Sonata, I had the gearbox fluid flushed and filled, just as a precaution - the service guy said it might help with transmission problems. Hope this helps! Just remember, a comprehensive diagnosis from a trusted mechanic would certainly give you a better peace of mind. Good luck and do keep us posted. Cheers!

Wow, you've given me a lot to think about! Thanks again for the insightful info, really appreciate the tips. You're right about the need for a comprehensive diagnosis, I'll head to my dealership and get a full check-up. The idea about the gearbox fluid flush sounds like a good preventative measure too. I'll keep you updated. Thanks for the wishes and cheers to us!
