Seeking Advice on 2014 Mazda CX5 Starting Issues Potentially Due to Engine Control Unit Main Relay
Car won't start

Hey! Thanks loads for the quick reply really appreciate it! I was certainly not ready for my ride to kick the bucket, especially with only 251840 KM on the clock. Well, to answer your question, I noticed a couple of odd things before it wouldn't start. Firstly, it was a bit hesitant on ignition a few times, and then the "Check Engine" light did flicker on several occasions. Other than that, so far no other major issues. But I'll make sure to keep an eye out if anything pops up. Hoping for the best! Cheers!
Hey there, No worries at all, happy to help in any way I can! Funny you should mention the ignition reluctance and the "Check Engine" light, because those were pretty much the exact same signs I had with my CX9 before it quit starting. It's like the car's sort of giving you a heads-up that something's not right, you know? From what you describe, it does sound like you're on the right track thinking it could be the Engine control unit main relay. It might be best to get your lady down to a professional just to make sure. I know it's an inconvenience, particularly with how dependent we all are on our rides in daily life, but better safe than sorry, right? Here's hoping it's a quick and relatively painless fix for you too. Fingers crossed! Cheers!
Hey! Absolutely, better safe than sorry. Thanks heaps for confirming my suspicion, feeling a bit more at ease now knowing it's probably not anything major. You're right, it's like the car wants to squeal on itself before it lets you down, haha. I'll get her into a local shop ASAP, hopefully, they can sort it out without emptying my savings. Letting you know how it goes once it's sorted. Cheers again! You're a lifesaver. Best regards!
Hey there, Went through a similar snag with my 2012 Mazda CX9. I'm no expert, just a guy who's turned a wrench a few times. Took it down to my trusty local garage and they diagnosed it as a defective main relay too. Had to shell out €120 to get it fixed but it was worth every penny. By the way, did you notice any symptoms before it refused to start? And has your CX5 got any other issues? More details could give a clearer picture. Hope this helps and you get your car back in shape as soon as possible. Cheers!
