Appreciate your response. My Altima is a 2.5 S model and it's covered roughly 105327 KM up until now. I was worried it might be some serious mechanical issue. But if it's the transfer case, that sounds more manageable. I'll get it checked. Thumbs crossed it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Thanks for your advice!

No worries, glad to help! Your Altima has similar mileage to my Maxima when I had it fixed. Considering the symptoms, I'd say it's a good chance the issue is indeed the oil wear in the transfer case, same as in my case. But of course, a proper diagnosis is always the best way to go. Hope it all works out friend, and let us know how it turns out. Don't worry too much, car troubles always seem catastrophic, but they often turn out to be less trouble than we fear. Also, gotta say, the 2013 Altima 2.5 S is a sweet ride. Keep that baby running!

I surely will. This has definitely eased my mind a lot! And agree with you, we always tend to think the worst when it comes to car troubles, don't we? I'll get it checked out as soon as possible and update you folks. And thanks for the compliment on my ride, the Altima has indeed been a sweet journey so far. Cheers for the advice!

Hey, nice to meet you! I had a similar issue with my 2011 Nissan Maxima. I’m not an expert, but I do have some experience with cars. When I noticed the horrible noises and shifting issues, I took it to my local garage, they’re pretty solid. They had to replace a worn gear in the oil in the transfer case, sounded pretty much exactly like what you're describing. Cost me around 210 Euro. By-the-way, do you know the exact model of your Nissan Altima and its mileage? It might give us a better idea if it’s the same issue or something else.
