Seeking Advice on 2013 Hyundai Sonata's Oil Pressure Switch Issue and Warning Light On Speedometer

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Metal shavings in oil

Oil light on

Hey! I'm wrestling with my 2013 Hyundai Sonata Gasoline and could use a bit of help. Lately, it's been acting up - got my oil light on, there's metal in the oil, and a warning light on the speedometer (which is new). My head says it might be a busted engine oil pressure switch – has anyone else faced this? Would be great to hear if you've tackled the same issue and what you've learned from your own repair shop adventures. Any tips would be much appreciated!

Hey there I'm not exactly a gearhead but I got some experience under the hood. I owned a similar ride, a 2011 Hyundai Elantra and had a wicked similar problem. Turns out, I had the wrong engine oil in there. Yeah, you wouldn't think it makes a big difference but it does. I ended up at my local workshop with my mechanic tossing a few choice words my way. Set me back 175 Euro but sorted it right out. Just a heads up, this might not be the exact same issue yer facing. Can you let us know if you've recently changed the oil? Details like the car's mileage and your driving habits will help, too. Looking forward to helping you out as much as I can. Keep your wheels spinning!

Howdy Funny you should say that, I did get the oil changed about a month back. But now you got me thinking, maybe something did go south there. But back to my Sonata - it's at 66736km on the dial, and I drive about 30km daily, mostly city commutes. Hope this helps you guys figure it out a bit more. Really appreciate the input, and here's hoping I don't end up on the business end of my mechanic's rant. Cheers!

Hey again, Thanks for the extra details - the picture's coming into focus a bit more now. The daily city commute probably means more stop-and-start, which can put extra pressure on the engine. Your oil change could've inadvertently introduced a different viscosity of oil not suitable for that kind of wear and tear. So, your head might be on the right track. A mucked up oil pressure switch could indeed cause your oil light issues, and it's not too much of a headache to test or replace if you're handy with a wrench. Just mind you don't burn your fingers! The metal shavings puzzle me a bit, though - usually a sign of bigger issues, sadly. Recommend you get the oil pressure switch checked out pronto. But definitely have a chat with your mechanic about the metal shavings. It's hard to be certain from this side of the keyboard, but those shavings and your recent oil change might be more connected than you'd like. Keep us updated with any new details that come up, and we'll keep trying to help out! Keep your chin up, and remember - it's just metal and rubber at the end of the day! Luck to you.

Hey I think you're onto something with the viscosity thing. As for the metal shavings - let's hope that's not a whole other can of worms, eh? I feel a bit more confident about taking it up with the repair guy now. I'll definitely have them look at the oil pressure switch and bring up the issues you've mentioned. I'll share any updates soon as I have them. Thanks so much for wading into this with me, feels better having behind me! Good vibes your way. Drive safe now, catch you on the flip side!
