Seeking Advice on 2013 Hyundai Genesis Rough Transmission and Warning Light Issues

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Transmission slips/shifts erratically

Hey! I'm having some trouble with my 2013 Hyundai Genesis, gasoline engine, clocked at around 35,802 km. It’s been showing me some weird signs recently like jerky transmission shifts and a persistently glowing warning light on my speedometer. I'm suspecting this might be due to a faulty parking position switch for automatic transmission, but I'm not 100% sure. Has anyone experienced this or something similar with their vehicle? I'd appreciate any insights or suggestions, especially about what to expect at the mechanic's - given that I had a not-so-great experience last time. Thanks in advance!

Hey there, just wanted to share my experience as it might help. I've got a 2016 Hyundai Sonata and faced similar issues a couple years back. The transmission changes were remarkably abrupt and I constantly had this warning light on. Sounds like your issue really could be pointing towards a defective transmission control unit (TCU). When I took my car to the garage, the mechanics found the TCU was faulty and causing the jerks and the warning light. Replacing the TCU did the trick, and my car has been running smoothly ever since, so it wasn't just a minor problem. So, unfortunately, you might have to gear up for an annoying repair. But once it's sorted, you should see some notable improvement. Hope your experience at the garage is better this time around!

Hey, appreciate you sharing your experience! Sounds super similar to what my Genesis is doing. Fingers crossed it's just a TCU issue, even though it still sounds pretty "ouch" for my wallet. Out of curiosity, do you recall roughly how much that repair set you back when you had it done on your Sonata? And since that fix, have you noticed any other related issues popping up or has it been smooth sailing since then? Thanks again for your input, gives me a bit more to go on before hitting the mechanics again!

Hey, totally get your concern. Car repairs are never fun for the pocket, are they? For my Sonata, fixing the Transmission Control Unit set me back by a whopping 1000.00 € - a bit steep, but honestly, a fair price for getting the old girl back on track. I haven't had any related issues since the repair, which was a relief. They also found and fixed a faulty parking position switch while they were at it. My car's been running like a dream ever since. No more annoying warning lights, no more jerky shifts, nada. Really hope your Genesis ends up on the same route after seeing the mechanic. Good luck!

Ah, there it goes, my dear wallet! I was already dreading the sound of the price tag, but truly, it's worth sorting this out for peace of mind and a smooth-running Genesis. Thanks so much for sharing your experience and how much it typically costs - definitely takes some of the stress out of the unknown. Really glad to hear your Sonata's been doing well post-repair, gives me a good dose of optimism. It's not what we want, but we gotta do what we gotta do, right? Cheers for your insights. Will brace myself and get it to the mechanic for a good fix soon. Till then, keep on cruising!
