Seeking Advice on 2013 Fiat Scudo's Engine Problems and Possible Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor Issue

Loss of engine power

Check engine light on

Fault stored

DPF regeneration failure

Hey! My 2013 Fiat Scudo with a gasoline engine is acting up. The check engine light is on, there's noticeable drop in power, DPF regeneration's failing and diagnostic tests indicate stored faults. I'm suspecting the Exhaust back pressure sensor could be the culprit but would appreciate your thoughts and advice. Have any of you had a similar issue and got it fixed at a workshop? What was your experience? Cheers for the help in advance!

Hey! I’ve had a similar issue with my 2011 Fiat Doblo. Not quite an expert, but I got some experience getting my hands dirty with cars. Ended up having the same problem - DPF severely overloaded. Took it to my local workshop, and they ended up replacing the DPF. Took a hit of about 1325€, but that sorta fixed things and restored power. Could you share more about your Scudo - like its overall mileage, maintenance history? Might help me give you a nudge in the right direction. Cheers!

Hey there! Thanks for sharing your experience. My Scudo's currently sitting at about 57789 km. I do regular service, last one was not too long ago. Still, the issue keeps popping up. The DPF replacement you mentioned does sound like a plausible solution. It's just that the cost you mentioned is a bit steep. Was it a one-off expense for you or did this turn into a recurring issue after the initial fix? Cheers for the help!

Hey again! Glad to know you're keeping up with regular maintenance, that's always key. About the DPF thing, it was a one-off expense for me. Once replaced, the engine power was restored and haven't encountered that issue since. Still, the costs are something to consider. It could be worth checking out other workshops for a better price. Maybe someone else had dealt with this in a more cost-effective way. As for the exhaust back pressure sensor you mentioned earlier, it can also pose a problem indeed. When it's faulty, the computer can't properly measure back pressure, which can mess up your emissions controls, and throw the check engine light. Have that swapped too if need be, but it's cheaper. As always, it's best to have a reliable mechanic give a good look before making a decision. Hope this helps!

Hey! Really appreciate you taking out time for such a detailed response. Good to know that the DPF replacement worked out for you without any recurring issues. Costs do matter, especially when it's in the four digits. So, based on your input I guess I should get cost estimates from different workshops for DPF replacement as well as for the exhaust back pressure sensor before making a decision. Having a pro take a look always makes sense. I’ll plan it out accordingly. Thanks again for your advice helped me a big deal! Catch ya later!
