Stalling while idling

Hey! I've run into a bit of a pickle with my 2012 Hyundai Equus with a Gasoline engine. I've noticed some worrying signs like black smoke from the exhaust when I step on the gas, the engine randomly shutting off, and drop in power. On top of that, it jolts when I try to accelerate, drinks up fuel like crazy, and the exhaust has a strong smell. It's also been stalling a lot when I idle. I've been thinking it might be due to a faulty low-pressure fuel system sensor but I'm not entirely sure. Has anyone experienced similar issues with their Equus and if so, how was it fixed in the garage? Would love to hear your experiences and tips on this. Thanks a bunch!

Hey there, I had a quite similar problem with my 2010 Hyundai Genesis. Just to clarify, I don't claim to be a car expert but I've got some experience under my belt getting my hands dirty from time to time. Anyway, my Genesis was also belching out black smoke, guzzling down fuel, and occasionally losing power much like your Equus. Took it to my local workshop and after a thorough check-up, we found out it was something quite different from a faulty low-pressure fuel system sensor. Turns out, the cable connections to the engine were defective. Cost me around 95 Euro to have them replaced. So, you might want to look into that too. Have you had your car's cable connections checked recently? You know what they say, better safe than sorry. Any info you can provide on the maintenance history might help get a clearer picture. These are just my two cents, hope it helps a bit!

Hey, thanks for reaching out. Your Genesis experience sounds a lot like what I'm going through right now. I get what you're saying about the cable connections, indeed something that could be easily overlooked. About the maintenance, my last service was around the 91353 KM mark, just for routinely stuff. Nothing major cropped up then. But now, considering the issues, it seems I might be due for a thorough check-up sooner than expected. Thanks for the suggestion, appreciate it!

Hey again! Happy to help a fellow driver in need. Your symptoms are definitely worry-inducing and not something to brush off. A thorough check-up is a smart call considering these symptoms. Seeing that you mentioned your mileage, I remembered that my Genesis started acting up around a similar mileage as well. I can't stress enough on how much changing the cable connections improved things for me. It even enhanced the fuel economy to some extent after! Also, keep an eye out for any issue with the oxygen sensors too. Faulty ones can cause some of the problems you mentioned like poor fuel economy, stalling at idle and unsteady engine. Although I didn't experience this personally, my with a Sonata had these exact issues due to a faulty sensor. So, a little bit of advice from a self-proclaimed petrolhead, don't just stop at checking the cable connections—get those oxygen sensors checked out too. And do update us what your mechanic finds, we all learn from one another’s experiences. Good luck with the car!

Hey, your quick responses are definitely putting my mind at ease here. Having the car acting up out of the blue has been stressing me out a bit. I never thought about the oxygen sensors before, thanks for pointing that out. It’s amazing how even a little thing like a faulty sensor can throw off the whole performance. You're making a whole lot of sense here and your ’s experience is something I'll bear in mind when I take my Equus for the check-up. I'll certainly get the cable connections and oxygen sensors thoroughly examined. Really appreciate your advice and will surely keep you updated about what the mechanic finds. Cheers!
