Seeking Advice on 2011 Volvo V60 Engine Problems Potentially Linked to Tank Ventilation System or DMTL Valve

Shaking while idling

Hey everyone, I've been having a strange issue with my 2011 Volvo V60 Gasoline. The check engine light is on, it's losing power, the engine is unsteady, it jerks when accelerating, stalls and shakes at idle. I suspect there might be an issue with the tank ventilation system or the DMTL valve. I'm curious to know if anyone else has experienced this and how you got your car back to normal. Any advice from your workshop experiences would be much appreciated. Cheers!

Hey there, I've faced something similar with my 2009 Volvo S60. From what I can tell, our issue lines up fairly closely. Now, I'm no mechanic but I do have a bit of tinkering experience under my hood. For my S60, the root cause was indeed the vent lines from the tank to the valve. They were defective and had to be replaced. My local workshop did a solid job for me. It cost me about 205 Euro to get it fixed up and running smoothly again. Hard to say for your V60 without more info though. Can you tell me more about any other symptoms or error codes if any? It'll help me to understand better and maybe provide more tailored advice.

Hey! Thanks for the quick reply. Well, to add a few more details, the car is sitting at around 182,483 kilometers from my last check, and there hasn't been any major service since the last one about a year ago, I guess. And yes, my V60 did throw a couple of error codes - P0442 and P0456. Those are both related to emission control system (small leak and very small leak respectively). I'm quite sure they're related to the main problem. Yeah, your episode does sound similar to mine. I'm thinking of getting the vent lines checked now. Hopefully it does the trick! Cheers for your help!

Hey again, I'm pretty much convinced it's the vent lines, especially since you've got those error codes. These specifically point to small leaks in the evaporative emission control system. This could cause the tank ventilation issues and therefore all your symptoms. Since my Volvo S60 ran smoothly after replacing the vent lines, it might be the same with your V60. I'd recommend finding a good workshop that knows its way around Volvos. The cost should be around the same as what I paid - 200 bucks give or take. Hope this helps! Get that Volvo purring again soon. Cheers!

That does really help . I'll definitely be taking your advice and replacing those vent lines at a good workshop. With a bit of luck, this should sort all the issues out. I appreciate your advice and taking the time to help me out. I'll definitely be keeping you updated. Here's to getting the Volvo back on the road! Cheers!
