Seeking Advice on 2011 Mercedes M Klasse Power Windows Issue

Power windows malfunction

Hey, looking for some advice here. I've got a 2011 Mercedes M Klasse, diesel engine, clocked about 289,145 KM, and I've run into an odd issue. My power windows are on the fritz and there's a fault stored in the system. Tried to learn the window regulator but no luck. Has anyone faced a similar problem? I'm hesitant to run straight to my mechanic – had quite an unpleasant experience last time. Any tips or insights on what could be wrong or any good mechanic experiences you've had with this sort of issue would be seriously appreciated. Cheers!

Hey! I own a 2008 Mercedes GLK Class, so not exactly the same, but I had a similar issue about a year back. My power windows were acting up and I got a system fault as well, didn't even need to drive heaps. In my case, it turned out that the culprit was the car battery. As strange as that sounds, yes, the battery can affect your power windows. It wasn't holding a charge properly and that inconsistency was causing the power windows to falter. A sort of ripple effect, you know. Was it a major issue? Not really. The car was still roadworthy, just inconvenient and annoying as dodgy power windows can be a right old hassle especially at drive-throughs and whatnot. Sounds like you might also have a weak or old battery. A battery typically lasts about 5-6 years, depending on use and care of course. As yours is from 2011, it's definitely the ballpark for a swap. So, before shelling out on new regulators or other major work, I reckon give the battery a bit of a look. Just get it tested at a local auto shop or even DIY if you're into that sorta thing. You also described a stored system fault, which can sometimes indicate a bad battery too. Hope my ramble brings some relief! Good luck with it. Cheers!

Hey there, Nice of you to take the time and share your experience. It's quite surprising how a little issue like a weak battery can cause every other darn thing to act up, huh? It got me thinking - you could be onto something with this battery theory, given my Merc is as old as it is. Just out of sheer curiosity, do you remember roughly how much it cost you when you got your battery fixed up? Also, any unexpected issues or side effects since the fix? I'm just trying to brace myself for what to expect 😅 Thanks in advance! Cheers!

Hey! No worries, happy to help! And yes, weird how something as straightforward as a weak battery could start a chain reaction, isn't it? Just like dominoes. Now, let's talk numbers. The battery fix set me back by 290.00 €. Slightly heavy, sure, but money well spent to clear off the niggling bother! And since you asked about any problems - none actually! My power windows have been behaving brilliantly since my battery was replaced. All perfectly well. And guess what? The attempt to self-learn the window regulator? Didn't work out first but it was successful right after the mechanic fixed it up. So, might want to keep that in mind if your issue turns out to be similar. Anyway hope that helps you brace yourself a bit for the repair costs. Cheers to fixing the pesky problem!

Hey! Appreciate the head's up and insights! Your info definitely has me leaning toward getting that battery checked, and the costs don't sound too exorbitant. Definitely higher on the scale, but if it resolves the issue and avoids future bother, I'm in. I'll give the window regulator another shot after getting the battery sorted out too! Here's hoping my power windows don't give me any guff once the battery's replaced, much like your experience. Thanks again for sharing. You're a true lifesaver! I'll trot down to the local auto store this weekend and get things looked into. Fingers crossed! Have a good one. Cheers!

It only helps to pull over and restart the key - then it runs again as if nothing was wrong - until the 120-150 km are reached again - thanks for information Ah OM642 engine

Hello MLRo320Cdi, Thank you for your message. Did you try a fault code diagnostic on your ML 320? If not, I would recommend you to do that first as we get the error codes for the exact issue. You could do it yourself with an OBD scanner or at a workshop. Once you have the error codes, please let us know so that we could help you better. Do you have any other questions? Best regards, CarlyAdminNik
