Seeking Advice on 2011 Mazda 5 Diesel Transmission Issues and Warning Light

Grinding noise when shifting gears

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Transmission slips/shifts erratically

Hey everyone, I've got a 2011 Mazda 5 diesel that's been giving me a bit of a headache. Recently, I've noticed it's acting weird - the transmission is slipping, making grinding noises when shifting gears, and I've got a warning light in the speedometer. My hunch is that the transmission oil pressure sensor might be acting up, but I'm no expert. Anyone faced a similar issue before? If so, how did you get it sorted in your workshop? Could use any insight or tips you all have. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! Looks like we're driving pretty similar beasts - I own a 2009 Mazda 3 diesel and had a bit of a similar scare a while back. I'm no car guru but I can handle some basic stuff. Turned out my transmission oil level was too low, which was causing all sorts of troubles. I took my car to my local workshop and had them sort it out. Cost me 365€ to refill it and check everything was okay. Now she runs smooth as ever. That being said, did your problem occur just out of the blue or did something happen prior to these issues? Has your car hit a specific mileage perhaps? It could help to know more about your vehicle usage to clarify things a bit more. Cheers!

Hey, thanks for the quick reply. Great to find someone with a similar car, helps a ton! My car's mileage is 73023 KM, and no specific incident happened prior to these issues - everything seemed to be running smoothly after the last service. I noticed the gear shifts becoming less smooth over the past week. Your insight about low transmission oil level gives me a direction to look at, though. Guess the next step for me is the local workshop - I just hope the bill doesn't run too high. Thanks again!

Hi again! You're spot-on with planning a trip to the local workshop, given that the gear shifts have been progressively less smooth. It really does sound like a transmission fluid issue to me, especially considering the mileage and recent service history of your Mazda 5 diesel. In my case the low oil level caused erratic shifting and that worrisome grinding noise too. So doing a proper check-up will indeed give you a clearer picture. Try not to worry too much about the cost yet - in the long run, overlooking such issues could lead to even more expensive repairs. The bill for correcting my issue was bearable, so fingers crossed you won't have any nasty surprises. And hey, remember to ask your mechanic to check the transmission oil pressure sensor as well! You had a solid hunch there, and it's worth ruling it out. Keep us posted on how it goes! Good luck!

Hey! Thanks again for your inputs. Truly appreciate it. Your points, added to my previous hunch, have solidified my decision to visit a local workshop. Getting the oil levels, transmission, and the oil pressure sensor checked. Cost is a worry, but you are right - better to avoid a huge expense in the long run. I'll definitely keep you guys updated. Hopefully, the fix won't involve too painful a bill. Fingers crossed, and thanks again!
