Seeking Advice on 2011 Kia Sportage's Flickering Lights and Flashing Warning Light Issue

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Dim or flickering lights

Hey! I'm having a bit of a weird issue with my 2011 Kia Sportage - gasoline model. Recently, my lights have been dimming and flickering, plus I've got this warning light flashing in my speedometer. From what I've gathered, it could be a software glitch in my vehicle, but I thought I'd run it by you guys. Has anyone ever faced a similar issue and if so, how did your workshop tackle it? Would really appreciate any insights or tips you had from your experience. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! Had a similar glitch with my 2009 Kia Sorento. I'd say I have some experience with cars but I'm no pro mechanic, ya know? So, I took mine to a local workshop. The guys there ended up replacing the Engine Control Unit (ECU). But here's the catch, they didn't program it to my vehicle initially, which they should've done. I ended up paying around 240 Euro. Now, for a better diagnosis, I'd need more info. Is your car manual or automatic? Any recent-vehicle maintenance or any other issues cropping up lately? Giving these details could help me to assist you further.

Hey, thanks for the quick response! That's pretty interesting, I didn't consider the ECU - I'll definitely look into that. As for your questions, my Sportage is an automatic. I did get a regular service just a short while ago at 98500 km, but aside from the light issue and the slight flickering, I haven't noticed anything unusual. Hope this info helps!

Hey there again. With the information provided, I can say that it looks like the ECU situation we had with our Sorento. From our experience, yeah, a malfunctioning ECU can cause such symptoms. The fact that there's no other apparent problems, indicates that it could also be a result of the recent service. However, consider doing a full electrical system checkup for your Kia. It might be tedious and a pinch on the wallet, but it's worthwhile to rule out potential unseen issues, could be the alternator, battery, or even a loose connection somewhere. Your safety is priority! And, don't forget to ensure the replaced ECU, if it's the case, gets programmed to your vehicle. It's crucial. Do keep us posted on what happens. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! Fully agree with you on the safety part, so I reckon I will get that full electrical system checkup done just to nip this in the bud. And will definitely ensure to get the ECU programmed if it needs replacing. Really do appreciate your insights - been super helpful. Will keep you updated on how it turns out, fingers crossed! Cheers!
