Seeking Advice on 2011 Kia Forte's ABS Warning Light and Missing Brake Light

ABS warning light

Brake light not working

Hey! I'm struggling with my 2011 Kia Forte (gas engine, about 176,732 KM on the clock). My ABS warning light's been glaring at me, and my brake light's gone AWOL. I'm guessing it might be a bum brake light switch, but I'm no mechanic and I'm a bit cautious after a not so great experience with one last time. Anyone here experienced something similar and can share your stories? Especially any tips on dealing with mechanics or spotting dodgy ones? Thanks, guys!

Hey there! So something similar happened to my 2014 Kia Optima a while back. Suddenly, my ABS warning light started flashin' too just like yours. And after a couple of days, my brake lights decided to pull the vanishing act. I was really concerned because they're pretty vital for safe driving, right? Figured it'd be smart to roll into the garage to see what the deal was. Turns out, it wasn't just a simple brake light switch issue. The mechanic dug a bit deeper and found it was a fault with the ABS module. That thing controls your whole ABS system including the brake lights. Was it serious? Kinda yes, 'cause if left unchecked it can lead to major brake problems and affects your car's safety on the road. The mechanic was straight-up with it. He also carefully explained the issue and the work needed which built trust and put me at ease. Fun tip: Always ask for a detailed explanation. If they're reluctant or vague, might not be the best to do business with. Anyway, good luck and hope your Forte gets sorted soon!

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! It's interesting to hear that your issue ended up being a problem with the ABS module, not just the brake light switch as I initially suspected. Puts it in perspective that it might not always be the simplest cause. Now, if you don't mind me asking, do you recall how much you had to shell out to get this issue fixed? And have you come across any similar problems or anything since you got it fixed? Thanks a ton.

Hey, no worries, happy to help! Regarding the costs, here comes the kicker... wait for it... I actually ended up paying zilch! Yep, you read that right, 0.00 €. It turned out to be more of a personal error and a simple adjustment to the brake light switch did the trick. Since getting it fixed with the mechanic, the brake light switch has been performing like a champ, and my ABS warning light has been nothing but a distant bad memory. So far, there haven't been any relapses or any other issues cropping up, touch wood! Hopefully, that'll continue to be the case. Cheers!

Holy cow! I'd love to hear "You owe us nothing" from a mechanic one day, hah! It's great that such a minor tweak could get you back up and running without costing an arm and a leg. Seriously, best possible outcome, right? Thanks again for sharing your story and encouraging words. It's reassuring to hear that these sorta glitches can turn out to be minor problems and not a full blown catastrophe for your wallet! Will definitely keep your tips in mind when I go to the mechanic and let's pray for a deja vu of your zero cost fix. Cheers!

Let our mechanics help you!
