Seeking Advice on 2010 Peugeot 107 Diesel Problems: Black Smoke, Low Power, EGR Issues, and DPF Regeneration Concerns

DPF regeneration failure

Strong exhaust smell

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Loss of engine power

Loud hissing on acceleration

Check engine light on

Hey fellow car enthusiasts, I'm having somewhat of a head-scratcher with my 2010 Peugeot 107, diesel version. Recently, the car's been acting strange - spewing black smoke when I push the pedal, the check engine light is shining brighter than Christmass, and she seems to have lost some of her gusto. There's a loud hissing sound when I step on the gas and don’t get me started on that exhaust stench. The DPF isn't regenerating properly either. I've got this hunch that there might be some issue with the Exhaust gas recirculation, but I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Specifically, If anyone of you had a similar problem and got it fixed, how did your mechanic resolve it? Would like to have an idea before I head over to the shop myself. Thanks a bunch in advance for your insights!

Hi there, My experience mirrors you pretty closely on this one. I had a very similar issue with my 2008 Peugeot 207. Not an expert mechanic or anything, but I do have some experience tinkering with cars. The symptoms you mentioned ring a bell. Took my car to a local workshop where they diagnosed the issue to be Damaged cables on the electric changeover valve. It cost me around 155€ to get it fixed. Made a noticeable difference and eased up the issues I was having. Sounds like it could be the same problem you're experiencing. For more detailed help, though, it would be great if you could share some additional info about your vehicle. Things like your mileage, when you last got your DPF changed, what your usual driving style is like, etc. This could help pinpoint the issue a little more accurately. Hope this helps a bit! Looking forward to hearing more about your situation.

Howdy, Appreciate the insights and glad to hear you managed to deal with a similar problem. The info about the electric changeover valve damage is really a helpful lead. Regarding your request for additional details, my Peugeot 107 has been going steady for about 99521 KM (roughly 61856 miles). Can't exactly recall when the DPF was last changed, but can assure that I maintain regular service intervals. I'm pretty gentle on the wheels, mostly driving around the city with occasional highway usage, so nothing extreme really! Anyway, I'll get those cables checked, fingers crossed it's just that issue. Cheers for the help!

Hey again, Good that you are maintaining regular service and I'd assume that the DPF has been cleaned or replaced during one of those services given the amount of mileage you already covered. In city driving, short distances and low speeds can cause the DPF to clog over time, which could contribute to its inability to regenerate properly. The info you've provided does suggest that the changeover valve damage could be the culprit. Still, I really recommend having a professional diagnose it, as exhaust-related problems can stem from different sources. In my case, having it examined and rectifying the electric changeover valve did the trick. Hoping the same for yours! Also, if there's a fault with the EGR system, it can cause excessive smoke, a lack of power, and a strange smell, just as you described. So, your initial hunch of a Disrupted Exhaust Gas Recirculation function might not be off the mark. It could be worthwhile to have that checked along with the cables. Best of luck with the troubleshooting, and keep us updated!

Hey! Awesome, thanks for the assurance on the regular service part. And you're right, the short distances and low-speed urban drives could indeed be clogging up the DPF over time, despite the regular cleanup. Great advice on getting a professional to diagnose it - I absolutely agree that the exhaust-related problems can be tricky, and the last thing we want is to overlook something critical while focusing on a single part. I'll make sure the mechanic checks both the cables of the electric changeover valve as well as the EGR system. Feeling more confident about dealing with the whole situation now, thanks again for your advice! Will let you guys know how it turned out once I get it fixed. Fingers crossed till then! Cheers!
