Check engine light on

Hey! I'm having a weird issue with my 2009 Lexus LX Diesel. It's been showing black smoke when accelerating, the check engine light's on, and I'm noticing a drop in power. It doesn't idle smoothly either, jerks when I accelerate, and stalls at times. To top it all, there's a loud hissing sound when I pick up speed, it shakes while idling, and there's this whistling noise. I suspect that the issue might be with the boost pressure system but would love to hear your thoughts on it. Have any of you experienced something similar with your vehicle and how did you get it resolved? How was your workshop experience? Appreciate your advice and insights!

Hey there, Coincidentally, I encountered a considerably similar problem with my 2003 Lexus GX petrol. I'm no car mechanic, but I do have some car experience, mostly hands-on and self-taught. When my GX started giving me grimaces with black smoke and whistling noises, I ended up taking it to my trusted local workshop. Turns out, the issue was a Wastegate valve defect. I had to replace it and it cost me 860€. The car runs smoothly now, no more black smoke or shaky idling. However, every car's different and your issue might be unique to your Lexus LX Diesel. Could you provide more details like mileage, frequency of service and recent maintenance activities? It'll help to narrow down what might be going on better. Good luck!

Hey, thanks a bunch for the insights! My Lexus LX Diesel's clocked 25508 KM so far. Recently took it for a service about a month ago, nothing unusual pointed out then. The issues I mentioned literally sprung up overnight, which is rather strange I would say. Never thought about the Wastegate valve, but now that you mentioned it, I do recall the mechanic telling me something about checking the health of it during the last service. I'll take your advice and have it looked at by my mechanic - hoping it won't burn a hole in my pocket though! Thanks for your help. Really appreciate it.

No worries! That sure is a bunch to deal with, especially when it pops up outta nowhere! Sorry to hear that. Although the mileage on your LX is pretty decent, sudden issues like these can sometimes get one scratching their head. I'd definitely recommend getting that Wastegate valve checked out seeing as your mechanic had mentioned it before. In my experience, once those babies start causing trouble, it's best to get them replaced before they cause more problems. I wouldn't dive into anxiety yet though. If your service was just a month back, hopefully it's not something severe. Diesel engines can sometimes be a bit finicky, or it might even be bad fuel - who knows! Do keep us posted on what your mechanic says, aye? Hoping for the best for your ride! Cheers!

Thanks again for the advice, really appreciate the support! What's important is that I've got a better idea of what the problem could potentially be, so I'm feeling a bit more confident moving forward. Got my fingers crossed it's just something minor like bad fuel, but we'll see! Will definitely keep you guys posted on what the mechanic says. Hoping for an easy fix. Cheers!
