Seeking Advice on 2008 Volvo XC70 Diesel: Issues with Blower, Temperature Control, and Warning Light on Speedometer

Blower does not work properly

Insufficient Cooling/Heating

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hey folks, I've got a bit of a problem with my 2008 Volvo XC70 Diesel and I'm hoping someone can shed some light on it. My blower seems to have a mind of its own, the temperature control isn't quite right, and I've got a pesky warning light on my speedometer that won't quit. I suspected it could be an issue with the outdoor temperature sensor, but I'm not entirely sure. Anyone else ever run into this? Could use your advice on troubleshooting and how you got it fixed by the garage. Cheers.

Hey! I'm no gearhead, but I've had similar shenanigans with my 2010 Volvo V70 Diesel. Turns out it was indeed the outdoor temp sensor acting funny, more specifically, it was a defective cable/plug connection from the sensor. Took it to my local garage, friendly guys with a chilled vibe. They diagnosed the problem and set me back about 155 Euro for the fix. Big relief. Couple of questions, ever noticed any erratic shifting while driving, or is it just the blower and temp control giving you trouble? Also, is your warning light the "check engine" one or something else? Any more details you can share might help me (or anyone else) give suggestions tailored to your situation. All the best!

What's up! So, the issue seems to be limited to the blower and temp control only. Drives just fine otherwise, no crazy gear shifts or anything. As for the warning light, nah, it's not the "check engine" one - it's some unknown symbol. Cheeky thing, that! Let me add a little context, the car is around the 196k KM mark and was last serviced about 8 months ago. No major problems since then til now. Based on your experience, should I look into getting that temp sensor looked at? Or could this be something else entirely? Cheers for the help!

Hey there! Ah, the joy of unknown warning symbols, always a thrill! Mine's in the same ballpark, currently sitting at 210k KM, so maybe we're onto something with that whole outdoor temp sensor theory. Here's the thing: I'd certainly suggest getting that temp sensor checked. Won't hurt and it could very well be affecting both your blower and the interior heating/cooling. In case it's indeed faulty, you might face a similar cost to what I had. That being said, this pesky warning symbol might hint at something else, of which I genuinely have no idea without seeing it. My advice: Get your ride to a professional or your favorite garage, have them run a diagnostics test. They'd probably get to the bottom of it. The light could be connected to your HVAC issues, or it might be its own separate problem. Hope this helps! Keep us updated. Good luck!

Yo! That seems like a sound plan, I reckon. Thanks for the tip. I'll contact my go-to garage and schedule a diagnostics test. Crossing my fingers that it's just the sensor and nothing more. Just what I needed to get me through this mystery! Looking forward to hitting the road with a quiet blower, the perfect temperature, and that pesky light gone. Haha. Will keep you folks in the loop. Cheers!
