Seeking Advice on 2006 Nissan Serena Overheating Issue and Possible Controlled Air Damper Problem

Overheating

Check engine light on

Hey everyone, I've got a bit of a puzzle with a 2006 Nissan Serena. It's a Gas model and has been acting a bit odd lately. The check engine light has popped on and it's been running hot, too. I’m suspecting it could be an issue with the controlled air damper - just a hunch. Has anyone dealt with something similar? If so, how did your mechanic tackle it? Any advice or insights would be super useful. Thanks!

Hey there, sounds quite like what happened to my 2004 Nissan Quest. Bit of a wrench monkey myself, so I'd say I've got some experience under the hood. In my case, it was the radiator shutter wiring harness that was shot, hiding behind the bumper of all places. Cost me a cool 215 Euro to have it sorted, luckily not much more than a bad headache. But to be sure, tell me a few more things about your Serena. What's the mileage and when was the last time you had full service done? The more deets the better.

Hey there! Thanks for your input, appreciate it. My Serena has already clocked 198088 km on the odometer. Last service was done quite some months back. I'm not the most astute with dates, unfortunately. But do you reckon I should have it checked out by a professional? I'm usually okay doing minor fixes myself, but if the damage is hiding behind the front bumper like you mentioned, it sounds a bit out of my league. Cheers!

Hey, it's pretty solid mileage on your Serena there. Given that it's been a while since your last service, getting it thoroughly checked by a professional isn't a bad idea at all. From experience with my Quest, I can tell ya, it's sometimes tricky to do this kind of fix yourself, especially if the issue is concealed behind the front bumper. I had to wrestle with a few radiator hoses and such – proper headache, you know. I say, drop it off at a trusted mechanic's place. They’d have all the necessary equipment to look into it. If the problem is indeed related to the air damper or the radiator shutter wiring like in my case, you wouldn't have to shell out a fortune, either, I reckon. Let me know how it goes! Cheers!

Hey! Thanks a lot for the advice, truly appreciate you sharing your experience. Seems like a trip to the mechanic’s in order then, don't really aim to brawl with any radiator hoses, ha! Will do as you suggested and get it checked out professionally, hopefully it won't be too harsh on my wallet. Promise to keep you in the loop once I figure it out. Cheers for being a massive help!
