Seeking Advice on 2004 Nissan Platina's Exterior Mirror Defrost Issue

Mirror doesn't defrost

Hey folks, I'm having an issue with my 2004 Nissan Platina (Gasoline engine, around 13323 KM on her) where the exterior mirror doesn't seem to defrost. I'm guessing it's either a fault in the mirror itself or the heating system. I've had a bumpy ride with my mechanic before, so trying to gather some experiences or insights from you lot before I take her in. Anyone faced a similar situation and how was your mechanic experience? Any info would be a big help! Cheers.

Hey there! I've got a 2001 Nissan Sentra and had a similar issue a while back. Turned out for me it was indeed a faulty cable connection to the mirror's heating. I had to get the plug replaced as it was not connecting properly to the mirror's heating system, and it caused the defrosting function to stop working. Was it a serious issue? Not incredibly, just a right pain when those chilly mornings came around. The mechanic had to remove the interior door panel to get to the connection, replace the damaged plug and re-secure everything back. And boom! The mirror was back to its old defrosting self. Like you I did my homework before going into the garage, but in the end it wasn't anything too complicated. So no stress! Just take it to a reliable mechanic and share these details about the potential cable/plug issue. Good luck! Hope your Platina is back to full health soon.

Hey there, bud! Really appreciate the detailed response. It sounds like you got off relatively easy with that fix. Can't help but wonder, do you recall around how much it cost you out-of-pocket? And has anything else related to the issue popped up since then? Fixing one thing only to have another issue down the line can be such a pain. Thanks again for your help!

Hey no worries! Yeah, the fix wasn't as bad as I thought, actually set me back around 155 Euro. They just took off the interior door panel, swapped the dodgy plug, and tucked everything back in place. Since then, it's all smooth sailing. The exterior mirror's been defrosting like a champ and no new problems so far - fingers crossed it stays that way. Since it got fixed, every chilly morning is a testament to the brilliance of my mechanic! I’d say give it a shot, take your Platina on a date with the auto doc. And keep your fingers crossed, just like me. Hope this helps and your baby gets toasty warm soon! Cheers!

Hey again! That sounds reassuring. Not too hefty a price for the fix and thankfully no further trouble - that's what we like to hear. Appreciate your advice, it's comforting knowing what to expect. I'll take the old girl in and see what the mechanic says, but with your shared experience, I feel confident about it now. Will hope for the best of outcomes, just like yours. Thanks for everything, dude, you've been a massive help. Cheers!
