Seeking Advice on 2004 Mazda 6 Diesel Ignition Start Issue

Ignition cannot be switched on

Car won't start

Hey guys, I've got a weird issue with my diesel 2004 Mazda 6. Lately, it's refusing to start and I can't get the ignition to turn on either. I'm guessing it might be something to do with the ignition starter switch, but not 100% sure. Anyone experienced something like this? How did you get it sorted at your local garage? All experiences and tips welcome to get this baby back on the road! Cheers!

Hey, something similar happened with my 2002 Mazda 3. Just have some experience with cars, so not an expert. Had some troubles with starting it recently, the issue turned out to be a defective wiring harness. After a few trials, bit the bullet and took it to my local workshop. The mechanic was quite helpful and sorted the whole thing without a hitch. It cost me 95 Euro, but no regrets honestly. It could be the same issue with your Mazda 6, who knows? Just a suggestion, better to consult a professional. Could you share some more details like any symptoms you noticed before this issue cropped up? Wheel to wheel comparison would certainly help to get closer to the problem more accurately. Cheers!

Hey, thanks for the quick response! Really appreciate the advice. Yeah, leading up to this, there was some stuttering when I tried to start it and a few times, the engine light would come on and off. No specific pattern though, pretty unusual. Gonna try your suggestion and take it to my local mechanic. Hopefully, it's nothing too expensive. By the way, my Mazda's got 216879 km on it and I last serviced it about 9 months ago. Not sure if the mileage contributes to this problem, eh? Anyway, I'll keep you in the loop about what I find out. Fingers crossed! Cheers!

Hey again! Yeah those intermittent signs, especially the engine light coming on and off, definitely points towards possible electrical issues. The wiring harness could indeed be a suspect here. Funny coincidence, my Mazda had almost the same mileage when it started encountering such troubles. Remember though, other components related to ignition could be problematic too. Like the ignition coil, starter motor, even fuel pump issues can mimic similar symptoms. So, getting it properly diagnosed by a pro definitely sounds like a plan. And yeah, keep us posted on what your mechanic says. Would be interesting to see if our issues are related after all. Good luck! Hopefully it won't break your bank! Cheers!

Cheers! Your advice has been really helpful, gotta say. I'll jot down all these potential issues you mentioned and discuss them with my mechanic. Preferring to keep the surprises at bay in terms of costs, right? Anyway, I'll be seeing him tomorrow. Fingers crossed it's just something minor. Will definitely keep you all posted on how it goes. Hopefully, my baby will be back on the road soon. Thanks again for your help!
