Seeking Advice on 2000 Fiat Marea: Check Engine Light and Transmission Issues

Transmission slips/shifts erratically

|

Check engine light on

Hey all. Got a bit of a head scratcher here with my 2000 model Fiat Marea running on gasoline. Noticed the check engine light glowing and the transmission acting weird - sometimes slipping, other times shifting abruptly. I'm suspecting something off with the transmission selector lever. Anyone here experienced anything similar? What was your encounter at the workshop? Really keen to understand your troubleshooting process and how you got the issue sorted? Any tips or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 1998 Fiat Multipla, which is just like your Marea, just the model's a bit different. I am not a car expert, but I've got some experience dealing with car issues. My problem was the same and it turned out to be a damaged cable connection on the selector lever. My workshop was quite helpful. The guys checked the transmission thoroughly, found the damaged part and replaced it. The total cost was 365 Euro, not really cheap but it did the trick. I'd recommend you to bring your Marea to a trusted workshop and ask them to check the cable connections. By the way, could you specify if your Marea is automatic or manual? Depending on that, my advice could be more helpful as each transmission type differs. Let me know!

Hey, thanks for your quick response! My Marea is actually an automatic. Glad to hear your issue got sorted without a major blow to the wallet. Just to add, my mileage is 63374 km and this weird shifting started occurring after my latest service. Quite unexpected, to be honest. I'll heed your advice and take it to my trusted mechanic - hopefully, the selector lever is only the issue and nothing serious. Cheers for the heads up!

No problem! Always happy to help out, especially when it comes to these tricky car issues. For your automatic Marea, the selector lever could definitely still be the culprit. The automatic transmission depends heavily on it for proper functioning. My Multipla is also an automatic, and similar to your situation, my issues started popping up after a service. It was baffling but, in the end, it was just a faulty or damaged part in the selector lever assembly. And hey, 63374 km isn't too bad at all. These things can happen regardless of mileage. Stay optimistic and fingers crossed that it's nothing major. Do let me know how it works out after your mechanic checks it. Always good to store more knowledge for future use. Good luck!
