Hey, thanks for that swift response! Interesting to hear about your Punto, I didn’t expect wrong oil could trigger this. My Stilo's been on the road for 89751 KM and normally purrs like a kitten. The latest service was a while ago, but there wasn't anything really out of the ordinary, just regular stuff - change of oil, filters, and spark plugs. Also, I haven't made any significant changes since then. Still, I’ll take your advice and bring it straight to my trusted workshop to get a professional diagnostic. Thanks again!
No worries glad to be of help! Your mileage seems quite reasonable for an '08 Stilo, so that's good. I reckon the regular service stuff hardly ever cause any problems, but you never know, right? Maybe oil quality played foul or they missed something during the service. Best to have it checked out by professionals, as you said. In my case, the wrong oil viscosity caused mayhem on my Punto's engine. So, I would certainly endorse getting the oil samples tested. Especially with the metal fragments in the oil, it might give you an indication of significant wear or damage within the engine. Keep in mind though, a faulty engine oil pressure switch could also send the oil light haywire. So, don't rule that out just yet. But considering '08 Stilos aren't exactly identical to '06 Puntos in all aspects, it's good to cross-check everything. And hey, remember to ask your workshop guys about the preventive measures you can take in the future. It's always better safe than sorry, right? Looking forward to hearing about what they find. Best of luck with it all!
You're absolutely right! I've certainly learned my lesson here. Getting the oil tested makes perfect sense, especially considering the metal fragments. It might clue us into what's going on in there. I agree, a faulty engine oil pressure switch could indeed be sending wrong signals to the oil light. Can’t discount that possibility. So, I’ll definitely request the guys at the workshop to thoroughly assess that along with other potential issues. Prevention certainly is better than cure, isn't it? I'm interested in knowing what measures I can take to avoid such an eventuality moving forward. So that’s one more thing to discuss with the professionals. Really appreciate your handy advice and sharing your own experience, it's been really beneficial. I'll post an update once I've got some word from the workshop. Cheers!
Hey there, sounds like you've got a bit of a pickle there. I remember wrestling with a similar issue with my '06 Fiat Punto. Well, I'm no mechanic but I dabble a bit, so you could say I've got some experience under my belt. Turned out my engine had been filled with the wrong oil, which eventually caused my engine to act up in weird ways. Not unlike what you're describing. Instead of guessing what's up though, I took it down to my local workshop. Let me tell ya, I trust those blokes. They figured it out pretty fast, and for my '06 Punto, it cost me something like 175 Euro to get it all sorted out. I reckon it might be similar with your Stilo. But of course, every car is a bit different. Why don't you drop more details about your car's condition and any recent changes you made? That'll make it easier to narrow things down for ya! Hope this helps. Good luck sorting it out!
