Hey, good to know I'm not alone in this! Your experience with your Celica sounds almost identical to what's happening with my MR2. Funky lights and a temperamental start are becoming the norm. Seems like I should brace myself for a relay issue then. If you don't mind me asking, could you recall how much you ended up paying at the garage for the fix? Might help me avoid overpaying if it comes to that. And has anything else cropped up since the fix, or has it been smooth sailing? Just trying to prepare myself for any potential surprises. Cheers!
Hey! Definitely gives you a bit of peace knowing you're not alone with this kind of car nuisance, innit? About the cost, it wasn't too harsh on the wallet - set me back by about 130.00 € to get that motor control main relay issue sorted. The car dudes at the garage were quite decent about the cost and everything. And to answer your other question, it's been smooth sailing since the fix. Your guess at terminal 15 was absolutely spot on! Since the mechanic squared it away, it sorted the interruption issue and I haven't had any bother with the electrical system since. Let's hope it's the same for your MR2. Don't sweat too much about it - you're already halfway to the remedy by guessing the probable problem. Keep me posted on how it goes and best of luck with it!
Thanks so much for the advice and encouragement! It's reassuring to hear your Celica's been doing good, post the repair. And the cost doesn't sound too punitive for peace of mind either. Definitely, it's a relief knowing I'm on the right track with this terminal 15 business. Gonna book an appointment with a mechanic soon and get the relay swapped out. Hoping my MR2 follows in the footsteps of your Celica and behaves itself post repair. You're right, knowing half the problem makes the solution less daunting. I'll keep you updated on how it pans out. Cheers again for your expert insight!
Hey! Read your post and it brought to mind an issue I had with my '09 Toyota Celica some time back. I'm not a car guru either, but faced something similar. My lights would flicker too, it was a hard start sometimes and it turned out to be the motor control main relay. Didn't think much of it at first, just shrugged it off as some minor electrical glitch. Took it to the garage, and they traced it back to the relay being defective. From what I gathered, terminal 15 powers that particular relay as you thought, so it might be along the same lines - you're clearly onto something. It was a bit of a serious issue as the relay affects the entire electrical system directly. However, once the blokes in the garage replaced it, things went back to normal. Since then, I haven't faced any problems. Trust me on this, get it checked. If it's the same issue, you'll save a lot of unnecessary hassle. Let me know how it goes! All the best.
