Title: V50 Issues - Fuel Injection Pressure Deviating? Hey everyone, I'm dealing with a pesky situation with my gasoline '05 Volvo V50 (mileage 101,889 KM). Lately, I've been experiencing strange symptoms such as black smoke from the exhaust when accelerating, engine shut-offs, a noticeable power loss, and an engine that seems unsteady. The ride's been jerky on acceleration and the fuel economy has been terrible lately. The check engine light's been on and I even noticed a strong exhaust smell along with occasional stalling while idling. I suspect it might be related to an issue with fuel injection pressure deviating from the standard value, but I'm not entirely sure. Had a bad experience with a mechanic last time, so I'm gathering as much info as I can before heading back. Anyone out there experienced something similar or has any advice? How did it turn out at the mechanic's? Much appreciated, folks!

Hey, I recently faced similar situations with my '02 Volvo V70, with similar symptoms on board such as struggling engine, bad fuel economy, and worst of all, unexpected engine cut-offs. Figured it had something to do with the fuel system too. After some heavy head scratching, hopped over to my local garage. Turns out, it was a fuel filter issue. See, I had just replaced the fuel filter myself thinking it could solve the weird symptoms. Post-installation though, the Error entry popped up - something I hadn't dealt with before. My mechanic explained it's common in these models - the fuel filter change can cause Error entry, triggers the check engine light and the vehicle picks up these jerky behaviors, exactly like you described. Apparently, it was resulting from the deviation in fuel injection pressure due to the newly changed filter. They had to reset the computer, clear the error and then correctly install the filter again. So, it sounds like a pretty serious problem at first with constant engine stuttering and black smoke, but honestly, it wasn't a major issue. I was relieved it wasn't more drastic and the work involved to fix this wasn't very complicated. Hope this gives you some direction before heading back to a mechanic!

Hey there, Thanks for sharing your experience, it sounds pretty similar to mine. I'm glad to hear it wasn't as drastic as it initially seemed for your Volvo V70. I've got to keep my fingers crossed for the same outcome on my V50. If you don't mind me asking, do you remember how much you ended up shelling out to get this resolved? And did the fix hold up or did any other issues crop up afterward? I'm just trying to brace myself for the aftermath, if you know what I mean! Thanks again!

Hello again! So, about the cost to fix the whole "Error entry after changing the fuel filter" debacle - you won't believe it but it only set me back a tidy 45€. I know, right! That really took some weight off my shoulders and was easy on the pocket. They didn't just clear the error, but optimised the fuel injection system so that the pressure issue was sorted, bringing it back to the standard value. Since then, my V70 has been running smooth as a baby's bottom with no further problems or check engine light horror shows. It really does feel like my old faithful beast is back in her prime again, minus the terrifying smoke signals she was blowing out before! So relax, your V50 should be right as rain after a visit to the mechanic!

Hey, Wow, sounds like the trip to the mechanic was worth it! Your tidbit about the cost being around 45€ and the no-return of any engine-related uneasiness put me at great ease. I'm going to mention the fuel filter and the potential error clearance to my mechanic and hopefully see the same positive results on my treasured V50. I really appreciate your guidance on this. I'll keep you updated on what happens next with the repair saga. Fingers crossed it all goes well! Cheers!
