Hey there, Gutted to hear about your car troubles. Your symptoms sound eerily similar to what described. I bet my last chip your issue's also down to that pesky crankshaft sensor. Just out of curiosity, do you remember how much damage the fix did to your wallet,? My friend's got an old Seat that's started playing up, and I wouldn't mind having a ballpark figure to give him. And since you got it sorted, have there been any other gremlins creeping up or has it been smooth sailing? Thanks in advance and hang in there! It sounds a whole lot worse than it really is.
Hey there, Don't sweat, I remember being a bit worried about the costs myself as well, but to be honest, it wasn't that outrageous. I paid roughly around 250€ to get the crankshaft sensor sorted. Once they fixed the positioning of the crankshaft to camshaft which was out of whack, most of the gremlins were put to bed as well. Since then, I can happily report the car's been running like a dream, no new monsters under the hood. The mechanic also suggested regular servicing to avoid any future mishaps, which I recommend your friend also consider. Hope that helps your friend out. And don't worry, it might sound scary but it's pretty straightforward, really! Cheers!
Thanks for your responses, guys. It really helps to know what I might be in for. I figured as much about the crankshaft sensor, but it's always good to hear it from people who have been in the same boat. And it surely sounds like a relatively quick and not too expensive fix. As for the servicing, it's one of those things, isn't it? You never quite think it'll happen to you until it does. Lesson definitely learned. Thanks again to both of you. Wish me luck at the mechanic’s tomorrow! Cheers!
Hey there, I had a pretty similar situation going on with my 2018 Seat Ateca, Diesel model a while ago. Just like your case, the check engine light was on, with the engine behaving all erratic and some nasty noises coming out. These symptoms tipped me off that it was probably a faulty crankshaft sensor. When I took it down to the garage, my mechanic confirmed it. He highlighted that a defective crankshaft sensor would mess with the exact crankshaft position information to the car's computer, hence leading to all these issues. The metal shavings could indeed be a sign of wear and tear of engine internal parts due to those misfires and uneven operations. Despite it sounding quite scary, and with the crucial role the sensor plays, it was not a mega issue, thankfully. The mechanic had to clean up the shavings from the oil and replace the crankshaft sensor, which resolved the problems. My car's been running smoothly ever since. Hopefully, fixing the crankshaft sensor could be a solution for your issue as well. Cheers!
