Hey! I appreciate the feedback. Well, I haven't made any recent changes to my V70. As for the additional symptoms, there's a noticeable rough idle and the car just doesn't pick up speed like it used to which is pretty frustrating. As of now, the car has a mileage of around 24431 KM since the last service. Thought I should mention it, just in case it gives a clearer picture. I'm definitely considering your advice on checking with a professional. Thanks again for the help!

No worries, always happy to help a fellow Volvo driver out! Your additional symptoms do support my earlier notion about a faulty high-pressure pump. The rough idle and hindered acceleration further suggest a problem with the fuel system. The mileage since your last service also seems quite high. Normally, Volvo recommends a service every 10,000 to 16,000 kilometers or at least once a year. You're absolutely on the right track thinking about taking your V70 to a professional. It really sounds like your pump is kaput, and unfortunately, that's not something that can be fixed with a quick and simple repair. It's a bit of a stinger in terms of cost but trust me, it's worth it to have a smooth running, reliable car again. As for the fuel volume regulator, it can contribute to the symptoms you're experiencing, but it's quite rare for it to fail on its own. Typically, it's part of the bigger picture, often being associated with a failing pump. Hang in there! Once you've got your Volvo sorted, it's going to run like a dream. And do keep us updated on the progress of your repair! Wish you all the best.

Much gratitude for the insights! It's a relief to find a possible solution to my Volvo's distressing symptoms. I'm heading to my local workshop first thing tomorrow morning to get the high-pressure pump checked and probably get a full service done while I'm at it. Your advice really went a long way. By the way, you've got a keen eye mentioning the overdue service, I completely blanked there. Here's to hoping the V70 bounces back to its glory days soon. I'll keep you posted about how it all turns out. Thanks a bunch!

Hey there! Sounds like you're having a tough time with your Volvo. A few years ago, I had a pretty similar issue with my 2002 Volvo S60. I also faced the black smoke, awful exhaust smell, and random engine shutdowns. Now, I'm no car guru, but I have some experience tinkering with cars, especially my own. Anyway, to get my car fixed, I had to take it to a local workshop. The mechanic identified the problem as a faulty high-pressure pump. Once it was replaced, all those infuriating symptoms disappeared and my car was back to running smoothly. It set me back around 1510 Euro, but it was worth it to get the issue sorted. Keep in mind every case can be different though, so it's important to get your ride properly checked out by a professional. Can you tell me more about your V70? Any recent changes or additional symptoms? This could help me give you more specific advice. Hope this helps.
